    Hey.

I've had my GHD for about 3 or 4 years and it's on it's last legs. It keeps turning on and off which I think is caused by a problem with the swivelly bit where the lead goes into the straighteners. I'm starting to get sick of how unreliable they are but am fairly broke. I'm going to London next month and was wondering if they're anyway cheaper over there or should I just get a pair here?

    Thanks!

    Hey there.
Not sure bout the prices in London, but I got a brand new pair of ghds on ebay a couple of months ago. Bout 85euro. They're some special edition so they're a crazy hot pink colour but they're definitely the real deal! Maybe have a look on ebay first before you go to london, at least it'll give you an idea of prices :)

I'm a fan of ebay but after hearing of a few fakes on site I avoided ebay when my GHD went to a better place (sniff sniff) after 5 poker straight years:( Rip Off merchants Peter Mark charging from €175...so got one for €103 on http://www.ghdmart.com/.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 320 ✭✭aviendha

... avoid GHDMART.... bought there after post above from Lainey_B only to receive a damaged ghd that doesn't get hot at all... go with HQHair.com instead.. a little pricier but at least not dodge city!

I saw an ad in a magazine the other day for a new GHD set - it's purple!!! I'd get one if I didn't already have one - my GHD is boring black and orange!! lol

I'd say they are probably cheaper in the UK though, especially with the great exchange rate at the moment.

Do a search on adverts.ie, actually think there's a guy selling pink ones there now. Just bought mine of a guy advertising on adverts for 100euros, brand new in box, limited edition came with travel case, everything and is perfect, sure why would you go to ebay when we have our very own adverts.;)
Look up at the very top listing and you'll see a linky.

you can pick them up sometimes on www.adverts.ie its part of the boards site.

    hi Sarah,

there not fake, well my wasn't, just old stock, the one i got works perfectly and was half the price of the ghd website.

When i initially complained they where polite in their replies to me.

how can you tell? ghd told me that the number on the hologram is not genuine and therefore the guarantee is useless if anything goes wrong. the box didnt have a security seal on it either and the dvd looks a bit dodgy. i dont think they can be old stock cos the pures have only been out a short time. am so confused!! x:confused:

oh, i'm not sure bout that, when i phoned ghd in the uk they knew what product i had from number, but said ghdmart where not offical suppliers. With regards to guarantee i'd be sending it back to ghdmart. To be honest mine was dead cheap and i was happy with the reply i got from them so i didn't bother pushing it.

this is my e mail from them,

    Hi,

I tried to confirm the hologram on the product you sent me, they tell me that the product is a fake. Also the display box is damaged inside, was it second hand?

    I'd like my money back.

    Regards

    Pete

This email back from ghdmart screams trouble to me. What customer service sends out an email with text speak, e.g. "u", "pls", etc. Not professional at all!

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 218 ✭✭Allah Hu Akbar

It wouldn't be professional because they sell fakes.

GHD only supply legit GHD's to salons so anyone who is offering you knew ones for about 100Euro they more than likely are fake.
thanks for that, am still not sure what to do, will wait for response, my hubby is a electrician so may ask him to take them apart and test them if decide to keep them. they do seem pretty good fakes! my box was damaged inside too, wonder what thats all about? x

What would taking it apart do? And of course they look like the real deal. They to register your GHD on their site they can tell you if they are fakes, nearly all GHD's on Ebay are fakes.

I was aware of the fakes on ebay, these were from ghdmart. My thinking on the testing was if was going to be a total farce getting a refund through paypal that i might keep them, portable appliance testing would have at least reassured me they were safe and working ok. i know they are fake and my intention is at the moment to stick it out with the dispute process. will see what happens!

The cord comes loose after 4 years of use and that is "unreliable"?
I've had my GHD 4 years and never had any problems with it. It must be the way you are storing it (e.g wrapping the power cord tightly around the irons) that's caused this problem.

I would recommend hqhair.com for a new GHD, if you check on retailmenot.com you can often get money off e-vouchers for HQhair there.

Yeah, I agree. And as for saying the serial numbers are only valid for a few months, wtf?!

I would let GHD get their lawyers on this, and get them to send you an email confirming these irons are fake, then paypal can get you a refund.

After two uses these have stopped working:( Turns out that they are a fake, seems to be loads of these flying around, have suggested that advert mods put up the linky to ghdhair.com on, so at least others can see if its the real deal - I'm gutted, the guy i bought them off is now not returning my calls after promising to return my money.

Sorry, but my five year old nephew would be more professional than that mail, I would be forwarding that on to the 'real' ghd people, and let them see what they think.

i am expecting the same email back from ghdmart any day now, but hopefully paypal will have frozen the money disputed, apparently they are supposed to do that when you raise a dispute. wish i had never bothered ordering them online now! Oh well you live and learn thats the last time i try and save money:mad:. heading off to my local (certified) seller tommorow to get a replacement. there is no way i would give the fakes to my daughter regardless of whether i get a refund, would never forgive myself if they went on fire or something.

I opened a dispute with Paypal and got my money back within a couple of days, so you should be ok... but stay away from GHDmart!!! Lesson learned :)

i've always wanted a ghd but can't part with that much money.. i've read on boards that kodo is a good and much more affordable brand of straighteners..
I found them on hairheaven.co.uk for £39.95 does anyone know if this is reputable site or if not is there any other alternatives?? hqhair.com don't seem to have them!

Had the exact same problem with mine after owning it after 4 years so I wouldn't say they're too unreliable!
I cut the cord, attached a new plug bought for €3 and now it works fine. No problems, good as new! Much easier than splashing out over €100 on a new one. :)

how did you manage that? i just escalated my dispute to a claim cos ghdmart didnt reply and paypal shut it instantly saying it wasnt covered cos i didnt buy on ebay! am shocked. spent half an hour on phone with them and basically told them they were condoning ghdmarts behaviour but to no avail. so much for them taking counterfeiting seriously. Am gutted, will not make that mistake again.

Before I got my GHD I used to use Remington straighteners and found them to be very good AND they only cost me €30 in Boots!

    Hi guys,

I am so angry i bought some ' GHD's ' from ghdmart.com using my Paypal. I tried to register them on the GHDHAIR website only to be told they are fake, I then used them the morning after before work and one of the tongs set on fire. Obviously been dangerous and fake i contacted Paypal to see what they said and all i got back was there is nothing they can do about it...

They did the same thing with me. I couldnt get to speak to anyone on the phone it was just an automated system but they just canceled my claim and escalation, saying if anyone else complained they would then consider looking into ghdmart.

Hi someone else suckered in! same happened to me paypal were not interested at all I went ballistic on the phone to them, got me exactly no-where. ghdmart didnt respond when i opened a dispute so when it was closed cos paypal couldnt care less i emailed ghdmart directly thinking it would be pointless but they did reply and although they claimed they were genuine (see prev posts) i perservered and although it took time i did get some money back. i lost my postage (£12) and the postage to send them back to them but at least got something back. good luck and glad to hear it didnt end up injuring you. x

They are talking crap am sure we havent been the only ones to complain about this company they told me no one else had complained either. they made the mistake of sending me a customer satisfaction survey too, bet i bet they regretted that..... x

You can actually appeal any decision that PayPal make on claims.. I can't recall exactly how one does so, but appeals (at) paypal.com rings a bell somewhere in my head, so that's probably likely. I'll check in any case, and as regards fakes, would advise you do so as they can and have turned their decisions around in the past.
