Assuming it's still there... it's in the Maths Department. Go in through the bottom entrance, and go up the stairs to the 1/2 floor (if you're going by the Hamilton Building floor convention) and go right. It's towards the end there on your left.

There's also the Maths Library on the ground (ground) floor, so I'd ask people in the Maths Dept. for more info on this if you're looking to do some work during summer... wait, what?!

If it's about repeats check on the ground floor of the Hamilton at the entrance to the Maths Department/Institute/School for the notice boards. There used to be information up there for the 'Maths Help Room' and there used to be classes held during repeats time, so if you are looking for help you can just turn up to these classes with questions.

Voilá, though Myth bet me to it!

It'll probably be open (it only gets locked when security decide to randomly), but I doubt anyone'll be around and the bookcases are locked. And Myth's directions are slightly outdated, they moved the room further down that corridor, past the stairs (on the right).

Ah I see. What's in the room that was the Mathsoc room? Just more officespace?

They turned it into a grad student office. The new room is smaller (and more to the point has windows facing into the Hamilton atrium, which reduces the drinking possibilities - which may have been the point).

The Mathsoc room is open 24 hours, but there won't be people there or accessible books 24 hours. There is a helproom on in the seminar room between 2-4 every day if you need more one to one help.

bit away from topic, but I would really like to see some of those books in the maths library, is it only maths-sy students that are given the code for the door?

The library is run by Prof. Simms, I don't know how strict he is about letting people use it, you could try emailing him and asking nicely (or you could do what a friend of mine did and guess the code, it's not very hard... )

Staff and postgrads I believe. Officially anyways.

Yeah, its only for staff and postgrads, though some undergrads are allowed use it officially if they have a valid reason and others use it unofficially.

ah that's what I thought but wasn't sure, anyway, *has a valid reason so doesn't really care

I just wanted to have a look to see what maths books are in there. Is it just me or is there very few maths books in the Hamilton? Where do maths/TP students normally go for their maths books?

Oh well if you just want to look there is an online search engine thing: http://www.maths.tcd.ie/local/library/ which might be partially helpful for you

I reckon there're enough maths books in the Hamilton library to get by on (certainly in first and second year anyway), and there is the non-lending section too which has more... I don't think many maths/TP students go much further than that... the Internet is also a useful resource, there are an awful lot of typed lecture notes out there for instance... Oh there's also the Mathsoc library too. Which is in the Mathsoc room. To bring this thread back where it started.

Yeah, the SLEN section is pretty weak. But as antiselfdual mentioned, there are quite a few interesting (to me at least) books in the non-lending section, and the mathsoc library has a fairly diverse collection too (including books on the Qur'an and Dune for some reason). Anything in particular you're looking for?

Not really sure, just wanted to see what's in there tbh, suppose it curiosity killing the cat  BTW, are you allowed to lend books from that library? If so, does it take up a space on your 4 books you're allowed to lend at any one time?

If you mean the mathsoc library, then yeah, you can borrow from it (and it doesn't count as one of your four books). If you want to borrow a book, head over to the mathsoc room and ask for Rachel (the mathsoc librarian).
