    just back from France and have a new favorite tipple.
    Pastis, if you like the taste of licorice and aniseed..
    Apparently its like absinthe.
    Mixer is creme de cassis (blackcurrant liquer)

    Love it to, i like it straight up with a llittle water, also great aperitif


    Pernod is probably the most common incarnate, but i would be surprised if you could not prick up one of the French brands in a good off licence

    In my days behind the bar they were called "Leg-openers". Classy.

    I love pastis too, and will normally pick up one of those double packs of one litre plastic bottles of Pastis 51 when I'm going through a French airport.

    Absinthe trivia: Pastis is what Pernod started making when wormwood was made illegal. Today's pastis is just wormwood-free absinthe.

    Don't ask for pastis ask for a brand name. I'd recommend Ricard.

    Pernod, Ricard, 51 all top brands.
