Should I do my long run tommorrow?

I am training for the dublin marathon (my first time) and I am following Hal Hidgons plan.

I did my 18 miler last Sunday and took my two days rest as planned.

I have swopped this week and next so that my step back week conincides with the half marathon next week in the park.

That means I am due to do my 19 mile run this Sunday.

I feel great at the moment.

My problem is I can't do my long run at the weekend, I have only trained once this week 5 miles on wednesday. today is Thursday.

    Should I

a: rest today and do my 19 miles tomorrow friday
B: Not rest today and do my 19 miles on friday
C: Run today and Friday and try and squeeze my 19 miles into next week somewhere?
    D: Any other siggestions?
    Would really appreciate some help.

There generally isn't a problem with swapping long runs around, I usually do them on Fridays and did my last one on Sunday for example.

The most important thing is to follow a hard / easy pattern. On the assumption that the 5 miler was an easy run I would do another easy run today and (time permitting) do the long run tomorow.

It's not generally a good idea to "carry over" long runs into the following week as that would disrupt the balance of teh training plan.

    Good luck with it!

Hal Higden himself says if you miss a day, don't try to fit it in, just forget about it and continue on with the schedule.
There is alot of time still left for Dublin and you;ve already got an 18 miler under your belt, well done, Don't worry about your long run during the week of the 1/2 marathon because your going to be racing 13.1 miles which in itself will be a great run and then the next weekend fit in a 19 or even a 20 and you'll be more than fine.

If your main emphasis is the marathon, a 19mile this week is probably a key run, so I would try and fit it in today or tomorrow, no later than Sunday if you are racing a half next week. If you are hoping for a peak performance in the half, do not do the long run - so depemds on priorities. As this is your first marathon, I'm assuming that is your priority, so I would say do it.

What were you due to do this week - i.e. if you took the step-back week. Am assuming it's something like 12 or 14 miles?

As with the above, I wouldn't get over-concerned about what you do this week. Just DON'T carry the long run into next week - i.e. either do it this week or forget about it altogether.

If you're feeling good, then I'd go out tonight for another 5 miler, do the long run tomorrow, and maybe squeeze in another 5 miler on Sunday (assuming this fits into your weekend).

What have you lined-up for midweek next week? Am assuming you want to have a decent shot at the half? Just remember that it's not the race you're training for, so don't be scared to take the foot off the gas during the race.
