Currently on Vista MCE but considering MythTV

    Looking for advise.

My TV provider is NTL/UPC cable. I'm trying to choose between Mythbuntu and LinuxMCE. The reason I want to switch to Linux is that my video repo is on a network drive. Vista will eventually timeout to the drive if not using it for a while and Vista MCE will then hang trying to re-connect (accessing video library).

To fix while its running it takes a 'alt+tab' to the desktop, load up my computer and select the network drive, to get it working again. Crazy because windows explorer never shows a drive unavailable error. And in windows it just takes a second or two for the network drive to respond (spin up the disks). But Vista MCE will just hang until I switch back to windows explorer and access that way.
I've tried modifying the KeepConn and autodisconnect options for LanManWorkstation and LanManServer, but it hasn't helped.

Can someone confirm that MythTV setup is possible with,
    Hauppauge WinTV-HVR 1300
Using remote that comes with that card.
and using blaster to NTL/UPC STB.

Edit: And what's the best source for programme guide?

    Thanks

The 1300 should work fine, those on the myth-users list reported that it was grand.

One thing to bear in mind, since it's a DVB-T/analogue tuner, it wont be a lot of good to you in Ireland as it only does mp2 (we're using mp4 in ongoing trials). You will be using the S-Video in component so no tuner is going to be used, and maybe going from something cheaper would be better. It will work with NTL's analogue signal fine (i.e. plugging their co-ax directly into the card).

Radio times for your listings, gives great coverage of 90% of the channels you'll get on NTL Digital. It's pretty straightforward to set up in Myth.

To start you off, I'd suggest just getting the analogue channels into your card and not worry about the blaster stuff. Then as you've got the hang of myth, move up to pulling the stuff from the STB.

I'm usually lurking around here if you need any help in getting your myth box off the ground.

    A.
