Fuji S9600 - Good Starter Camera

    Hi Guys,

First post here in photography so be nice! :P. I might be here more often!

I'm quite comfortable with photoshop and for some time now i've wanted to start an investment in a good camera and build up a portfolio and also have some of my own shots to edit and create things with!

Newho I saw a good deal on a fuji s9600 in a local shop and I was wondering if it is any use? It seems to have a lot of great features like the lens being housed such that no dust gets in for a start! And supports a lot of formats and appears that the optical zoom is excellent from the samples i've seen

I guess what i'm wondering is have any of ye used one or have one and is it worth it. It's a good deal, almost half price

Would it be OK for someone looking to start off? Would it take pics of professional quality? My view is to become more serious with photography as I gain more experience creating pictures of my own

    Thanks for your help :)

    Cheers

    LG

I suppose it depends on how far you want to take your photography.. I had one, and it was grand, til my husband got a 400D SLR. That quickly opened my eyes to it's limitations, ie, in lowlight photography, higher ISO, frames per second, no proper manual focus... I stole my husband's 400D and never looked back :) Price SLRs too - if you can at all, you will get so much more out of it. Good luck :)

humm depends how cheap your getting it, its very good but anything over 200 i'd start to learn towards a d40 tbh

I had a Fuji S5000 for four years. Absolutely brilliant camera - never let me down...ever. The 9600 is not a DSLR, but a 'bridge' camera, but, according to the review in the link below, it's as close as you will get. Enjoy it!

I've a 9500 and find it grand. The 9600 is the more recent version. Does the job for me within my price-range at the time. I've film SLR's and I didnt want the hassle of changing lens when I'm just out for a walk with the dogs or gone for a spin, but wanted more control than a point and shoot would have given me at the time. I've taken more than 20,000 photos on it, some of christenings, parties, child portraits etc and people have been more than happy with them.

It is a good starter camera if you use it to learn and learn and learn. Then upgrade to an SLR when its not going to go to waste.

I've add on lenses for my 9500 and it does the job grand.

I have an S6500 at the moment and love it. It does me fine for the photos I take.
I'm sure one day I might take the plunge and get an slr, but for the moment I'm happy.
