    Hi folks,

Apologies in advance if anyone feels this is not the correct forum, but I need the general interest and excellent eye for a too-long parked car that is sadly lacking in some of the other categories.

Fiends of mine have an old Townace of which they're very fond. However the last of the chewing gum and sticky tape is giving up the ghost and they really need to replace/restore it. I previously found a parts donor for them in a front garden in Carlow, but now we need another, or a working replacement.

Does anyone out there know of a Townace that might be available - running or not?

    Thanks

Goodness! I don't think I've ever seen a Townace version of the second; from the photos I presume that both are common in the Antipodies?

It's definitely the later model, but they come with two styles of roof. There's the "Moon Roof" version as in the photo - I think 4 of the 6 open - and the sunroof version which has two electric sunroofs. There could be a distinct model variation, but don't ask me what it is.

My friends like it for the versatile people-carrying abilities, as they can chuck all their sprogs in the back. I was quite impressed whe I looked closely: auto box, 2-litre tubo diesel, 4x4, built-in hot & cold box and switchable suspension settings which will switch to Hard automatically on braking (at least they should do, most of the ones I've seen are long past that). Plus all of the usual Jap people-carrier bits such as moveable, foldable seats, nice upholstery, curtains, etc.

    Wouldn't mind one meself.

I was about to say in my defence that I have only owned one, but then I realised that among the 29 or so vehicles that I have owned over the years, I had overlooked a diesel Cressida. Can't remember the year; it originally belonged to a friend of mine who owed me some momey and gave me the car in exchange. It would have been a good car, if he had ever seen fit to change the oil.

Remind me sometime to outline the simple process we followed to eliminate the many, many hundreds of pounds (it was a while ago) owing in parking fines, tickets for non-payment of road tax, etc, etc.

I've heard of this being done to Previa's (well, JDM Estimas and Lucidas)

Incidentally, your friend would be better off buying an Estima or Lucida as they are superior in every respect I can think of.

Hmm, except one aspect I can think of:

    They cost more!

Wouldn't they share a good lot of parts with the European-spec. Liteace van?

I suspect the only parts they have in common is the back axle (not including the diff). Oh, and possibly the radio.

    :D
