iTunes won't install

I'm trying to install iTunes 8, I've downloaded it from the Apple website. When I double click to open it I get the following options...
"Welcome to itunes installer screen" - I click Next
License Agreement - Accept - Next
    Installation options - Click install
Progress screen flashes up and then disappears
Screen pops up "The installer encountered errors before Itunes could be configured.

I think its a digital signature issue, how do I fix that problem?

    I'm running Vista 32 bit

Probably a silly question but have you tried downloading the software again? (Try again)
There might have been a problem with the first download internally.
Something missing/wrong from the installation routine. Its been known to happen.

Vista can sometimes be a pain when it comes to installing apps.

Also uninstall Quicktime and the Apple Mobile Device Service if they are listed as parts. If you right click on the installer and see Run as Administrator, run it in that mode and see if it works.

Consider disabling firewalls and anti-virus also temp-wise JUST for installing it also if the problems still persists.

    Have you rebooted the machine?
Vista released an update today to some machines by the way.
If your system is set to update automatically, this might be also interfering with the independent app trying to install also.

You might need to do a "Regedit" also to clean the previous messed up install routine up as well.
This might be interfering with further attempts also.

I've uninstalled Quicktime & Apple Mobile Device, I also cleared the registry.
I re-downloaded iTunes 8, I've attached pics to show what happens when I run the install. For some reason the installation program publisher can't be identified by Windows.
On my gf's macbook I'm having a similiar problem, when I try to update itunes I'm getting a "digital signature" error.
Over the past couple of days I've been trying to upgrade my gf's 1st gen iphone using winpwn on my PC and pwnage on her machine, would I have done something to both machines to f**k something up? I couldn't get the upgrade to work on either machine.
