    so when I create a new tab or window there is nowhere to key in the www.

    Click on View menu > Show toolbar.

    At the top in the menu bar go to view-then-customize toolbar.

    Did you look in the "last place" ? :pac::pac:

    Couldn't resist, sorry. As said above Right-Click on the Safari Title bar > Customize ToolBar . . . and drag it from the options window to where it should be. Also handy to drag the Printer option up there too.

    It sometimes happens me when I cycle through tabs using Command (apple key) + shift + ] or [
    If I am all thumbs I might press the \ key instead of the ] key which toggles the toolbar (address bar) on and off
