I have a drive here that i need to get documeets off, so i figured i would lob it into a free sata slot in another pc and copy the files across, however windows wont let me get at the files in the documnets and settings area.

Is there any way of getting at them?

Is it only windows preventing me from getting at them or is it some type of encryption?

What format is the drive in NTFS, Fat 32 or old FAT?

What operating system is on the machine your trying to plug it into?
(I suspect its either XP or Vista with their awkward security permissions)

the drive is ntfs, and both machines had xp home.

I have tried to change owership of the folder, but it appears that it is already in my ownership.

    logged in as admin btw

//edit/// I just figured it out I was stupidly following MSN instructions, I needed to add my self to the permissions tab, not the owner tab.

    thanks for the reply anyway.

There is one way around it using dos. Do you know how to use dos?

By the way, if you can get it back into the old machine it came out of, change the location folder that your files are in to "shared" as permissions.
That just might, might help too.
