Buying a Mac on the high street

I realise this is an OS section but I can't see any where else to post this so here goes.

I'm in the market for a new laptop and was thinking about a Dell until I realised the model I liked only comes with a glossy display. I'm considering a Macbook Pro instead but need to buy it in somewhere like PC World because of the interest free finance.

As far as I am aware they only stock the Macbook not the Pro. So where are the best places to pick up a Macbook on the high street? Neither Harvey Norman or PC World, who both have good finance packages, show on their sites if they carry the Pro.

O2 sell them without the finance.

I presume u know that the fine print in a zero finance agreement is lethal: better off avoiding it if possible as it is a HP agreement, so even with the shop insurance if anything happens the pc u still owe the money.
    just a thought

I purchased my current machine that way. Pay about half of it off over 12 months then give them a lump sum before the end of the year. If you let it go over the 12 months it's a 36 month deal at 21%, which is a ride. I paid it off under time and avoided any interest.

Think I'll just call PC World tomorrow to see if they can get MBP's. Might be worth holding off for an update though.

New notebooks are expected next month (October 14th is the rumoured date) so yeah you should definitely wait. Although it might be a while before PC World get the new models in. They usually continue to sell the old ones at full price for some time after.

Point of order that is worth a ponder; if you can get finance from a shop you will certainly get it from your bank with spots on and at more reasonable terms and acceptance levels than 21% over 30 months . Unless you want the fun of walking out of the shop with a laptop, I'd egg you to purchase off Apple direct and get a 100% new up to date machine. I'd echo SP; shops can often sell old models for OTT rates well after upgrades are rolled out and a new spec may be due in a months time.

Not sure about PC World as a general rule but the one in Airside Swords has its own dedicated Apple section, manned by an Apple employee... I'm sure the stock from that section still applies to any finance PC World do...

    +1.

If you can be accepted for finance in the store a bank will sort you out too. Not interest free mind you, but there's always a catch.

True that. If you do insist on buying in a store OP and aren't sure of the latest models get the salesman to confirm it's the latest model. In fact, get them to write it on your receipt.
Anything they imply or promise becomes a condition of sale.

If it is the latest model then will have no problems doing this and it's a pretty big sale for a shop. If they refuse..........run

Thanks for the replies, been a big help. Going to wait for PC World in Airside to stock the new models, whenever they're released. I'm aware of the different finance options and to be honest the PCW interest free suits me the best.

    Cheers guys:)
