Timbaland kicks ass. Don't be a begrudger.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 1,764 ✭✭✭shay_562

Meh. If Heather Mills-McCartney didn't cause the college to spontaneously implode, then Timbaland (who actually has demonstrated talent and risen to the top based on his own ability) probably won't debase the college name too much.

Awesome. I might even go to that.

Talking bout debasing colleges names, the Indo does wonders for UCD's illustrious rep... I just stumbled on this...
    http://www.independent.ie/education/latest-news/clinics-ready-for-surge-in-students-bingeing-on-sex-drugs-and-drink-1471006.html
It puts the term "fag hag" in a new light for me. Inane ... and I guess no legal recourse for this tripe against the Indo rag emot-flame.gif

I guess the TCD "study" they refer to is this

What a joke, masquerading as "subject to statistical analysis"!

I don't know why they bother pretending it's for some sort of recognition of their abilities or whatever.

Might go and ask him why he wrecked his own track with M.I.A. by opening his mouth on it.

    Oh dear...

Incidentally, you'd never see an article like that in a real broadsheet, the Independent is just a glorified tabloid

How/why is it that the Phil have events before college starts? Well, i'm assuming it hasn't started yet for anyone..?

You hold the events when the guests are available, more or less. And even if not that many people turn up, it's still another big name to add in when you're selling the society to freshers/sponsors.
    Its spelt whore.

    That'd be "It's", surely? ;)

You will note that Jodie Marsh is not coming to TCD, but UCD. I think that is quite apposite, appropriate and apt.

There's actually a society in TCD that chooses one of their committee every year and calls them "Most Likely To Become Taoiseach"! Imagine being that big into yourself...

I bet it's not the PDs.

I think we've already discussed our relative positions for the rest of our lives based on Central Societies Committee ranking. You will speak only when spoken to. Plus, this board is for TCD students silly.

Believe me, EGaffney, when I look back at the last few recipients of that award I have a similar sense of dread when I consider any of them gaining any form of power. (I also hear they rank people on a 1-5 scale)

That said, I should make a public clarification: I completely overlooked EGaffney when I wrote my previous comment. I'd be perfectly happy to live in a country with him as the sole leader and voice of power, and I doubt I'm alone in that. All hail our not-particularly-benevolent leader and his glorious reign of terror!

Regrettably my chosen vehicle of seizing political power (the Progressive People's Democratic Liberation Front) has had a bit of a hiccup. We may end up with a moderate annoyingness rather than malevolence and a rather inglorious reign of mediocrity - more Antonio Salazar than Darth Vader.

I'd argue with you if I hadn't seen the honest-to-god slogan of the UCD(D) Progressive Democrats on their Freshers' Week stand this morning - "What's the worst that could happen?" Truly, dark days for you all. That said, it's not too late for you to jump ship - in fact, now might be a perfect time to latch onto a rising boat in Irish politics. I suggest the Green Party.

Again, that'd be UCDD you're thinking of. James Joyce being one of their graduates and all that...

I'm relatively certain the Hist hasn't. I think the Phil had some in for a porn debate years back. At least 50% of your complaints belong in a different forum I'm afraid. Check it out.

I remember when Bertie Ahern spoke at the phil, He mentioned paddy cosgrove (now of rock the vote) as "the most likely to become taoiseach" or something along those lines.

Erm, two of Paddy Cosgrave's ancestors were Fine Gael* taoisigh. Don't think Bertie would consider that keeping it in d'family!

*Yes, I know W.T. was not technically ever an taoiseach and that when he was, it was in C na G.

Serious "Bwah!" at the "Meet The Next Taioseach!" flyer next to them. Still AS, I stand by my point that the OP's immediate concern about glamour models and pornstars and whatnot should probably be directed towards UCD, where both of the big debating societies are having/have had porn debates for their freshers.

Word. I believe I posted not too long ago about my desire to see John C. McGinley at the college. So huzzah!

    Really??? Awesome!

As for Timbaland, I personally cannot abide an artist who copyrights all his beats, and utilises such unnecessary, grammatically erroneous flippancy in his song titles as "The Way I Are". I can only imagine a speech by such a character to be vacuous and uninspiring.

That is an invalid accusation to throw at the Phil. Every society pays their guests with drugs!

Did all the guests the Phil featured in their magazine last year actually come? I don't remember hearing about any or seeing any advertised besides Helen Mirren and Heather Mills.....

Oh, and I remember Johnny Marr was there on Freshers' Week last year too.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 709 ✭✭✭wowy

Last year, yeah, not really the May West when it came to guests showing up. This year, the President and his officers have been working pretty hard at getting guests, so hopefully that'll bear some fuit.

    http://tinyurl.com/4mevbn

That's the facebook page for upcoming Phil events. Over the next 2 weeks, they have Timabland, Chris Blackwell, Jonathan Rhys Myers, John C. McGinley and Trent Lott. I don't know any other confirmed guests for the rest of term yet, but I have heard some positive talk from Barry. But those 5 events are a good start.

Right, that's enough of my shameless promotion.
