It never rains but it pours....my laptop now refuses to play dvds when it previously did. It's not this particular DVD either it's all of them.

    I get this error message

'Windows Media Player cannot play DVD video. You might need to adjust your Windows display settings. Open display settings in Control Panel, and then try lowering your screen resolution and color quality settings'

Have carried out all of the above suggestions with no effect. Went into help and tried their suggestions but no effect. Googled the problem and downloaded some XP Codec thing that was 'guaranteed' to work but still the same error message.

At my wits end with technology at the moment....I really am.

Did this would play it either. Wouldn't move past the copyright info.

Try updating your video card drivers, they could be the likely cause

Try downloading the best codec pack available.

That would be the K-lite codec pack.
When installing it select "Classic media player" for playing all your items.

This pack plays EVERYTHING to far that is possible out there - sound, video, rare formats, etc.
Make sure "ffdshow" is selected as a filter in all the options and away you go.

    Found here:
    http://www.free-codecs.com/K_Lite_Mega_Codec_Pack_download.htm
    or
    http://k-lite-codec-pack.en.softonic.com/
or across the net in loads of places. Its free by the way.

Still having problems... then go to the below mentioned.

Consider also going to www.driveragent.com and using that to see what drivers your system might be short.
This too is one of the best services on the net and MUCH better than Microsoft and their updates.
This one site WILL sort out any problems you have with drivers, etc that might need to be updated.
I use it all the time when I am repairing systems and broken installations, etc.
I swear by it. It scans your pc (its quite safe). Then tells you what the drivers are that you need.
You have two options at this stage.

Pay a once off fee (around 16 quid) to download the lot as many times as you want. It will give you the direct locations and in most cases, multiple locations.
I should mention also that once you are signed up, you get to use the same service for free then on any other systems you want to.
Just go to another pc/laptop, sign in (with your personal name and password) to the site and away you go for free to update that next system (and the next one and the next one, etc...).
I have updated many systems using this great site.

    or
See can you find them yourself on the net elsewhere from the free list provided by driveragent.

Good luck. Any further problems, pm me, I'll pass on my phone number and I will talk you through the problem, get you sorted.

A word of caution, Powerdvd has its own ways about playing some file formats and codecs it sometimes needs.
Thats said, it IS one of the best. Glad its sorted.

All else fails revert to an installation of the previous mentioned K-lite pack.

    Happy viewing anyway.
