Credit Cards?

I want to get a credit card. I'm a student and have an account with AIB, I know I could get the student credit card easily enough but I have 2 concerns. Firstly, it says the card may not be readable on all machines etc... I want it for a trip to the US and I can't rent a car in the states without a card in my own name.…

Second , I'm in my final year so I presume I couldn't use the card after graduation.

Is it possible to get a 'normal' card as a student with no income? I know on the application forms they want utility bills and everything and I don't have anything like that in my name.
