I just got a phone call from apple informing me that my 90 days of free support are now over. I told them I would not be paying extra to extend it. This is what I don't get, under European and Irish law aren't I entitled to at least one year free warranty support anyway?

That's just the telephone support. There's no legal entitlement to this. Your 1 year warranty still stands.
