Golden Spider Organisers Rely on Spam For Marketing

Today I received 2 emails from the organisers of the Golden Spider Awards promoting their event despite the fact that I have not subscribed to their mailing list.

Checking the e-Business Discussion list run by Enterprise Ireland it appears I am not alone.

Now it would be bad enough that the highest profile public event in the web industry is tarnished this way via illegal marketing tactics once but this is merely a repeat performance from last year when the Data Protection Commissioner awarded a paltry €500 fine against the organisers for exactly the same offence.

In any case I have forwarded an official complaint about this year's transgressions to the Data Commissioner. Guess I won't be winning any awards any time soon...

I was in contact with the company they use for their email "marketing" and have lodged a formal complaint.

meh.. the Irish IT sector has been spammy for years.. I blame Computerscope for starting it off by masquerading press releases as editorial content.. :pac:
