Right, so it's come to that time in every tube amp's life when they just aren't performing and need their nappy changed. The problem is I'm not sure what to put in!

It's a Mesa/Boogie dual recto head and I was thinkin of loading it with the standard Russian ones, but then I thought why not try a few 12AX7's ala Van Halen? What do you guys reckon?

Just remember that whatever brand you go for - your power valves need to be screened to Mesa specs; you can't just put any old valves in there. They have to be ones that have been specially selected to operate at the right bias.

Most good valve-sellers will have Mesa 'sets', so you know you're buying the right ones.

You've also got a choice between 6L6 and EL34. 6L6 are the standard valves for Recto's, but they can take EL34 for a different sound (brighter/more cut/more upper mids). Ive used EL34 in a Recto and I LOVED it...but these things are all about preference, so you might not like it yourself.
