Dunmurray Springs Deal

I received this from Dunmurray Springs regarding their new deals for membership.

Obviously they are still offering an expensive share scheme but if you look at the bottom one, it looks like the basic GUI handicap and play option which some of you mentioned might be happening across the board.

Apologies if it's been up here already, I may have missed it. It's a bit away from the bulk of people here but a good yardstick to measure against other membership schemes perhaps?

That looks like a good range of options. If any clubs nearer to me were offering such deals I'd be in like a light. Dunmurry is just that bit too far away for me and not a course I enjoyed when I played it.

Slightly OT: Can anybody see any sense in paying >€10k for a share membership of a club with no clubhouse? It wouldn't instill confidence that the club can't/won't front the money for the clubhouse. Did they never see Field of Dreams? "If you build it they will come". Millicent seems a good example of how to do it right. Early members paid about €5k (reasonable IMO) and got a fine course to play on. Once the clubhouse was built, new memberships cost €12.5k iirc. A bit pricey but all the facilities are now there, bar, restaurant, changing rooms, function room, shop etc.

I know if you circumvent the club though, memberships for Millicent can be had for much less than €12.5k but that has a lot to do with the structure of the share issue deal. The club has first option to buy back shares (for 6 mths I think) at, or close to, the purchase price. The club don't want shares back, they still have new ones to sell, and the members who are leaving want to make a few quid on their investment.

If any clubs nearer to Lucan are reading this, I'd have your arm off for a €28 per week membership :D

not sure why they didn't total the last offer. €28 a week presumably is for 52 weeks so €1456 a year. Ok offer but not stunning for somewhere a bit far from dublin. Personally I'd be doing well to play down there every 3 weeks, so €84 a round or so.

3k a year for castleknock (15 months membership) as on the other thread would be better value for me, as you would get to play much more often and it is a nicer course.

Still amn't seeing the stunning offers out there, presumably they will trickle in as the year goes on or into next year.

With it being a course I really like (Dunmurry), and as I live Citywest direction it is only about 25 mins (at most) from my door... Hmmm, I think I'll be giving the €28-per-week option some serious consideration.

I don’t know what it is but you seem a little bias towards Castleknock, not having a go at you!

But in every thread when people are giving out about the over inflated price of Castleknock, over the new price of 3k a year, you appear to defend them, sure you’re not working for them!! I’ve nothing against the club but I when I heard that they were reassessing their membership fees I thought it would have been much lower.

That deal €28 a week is great and if I lived around there I would seriously think of joining. I think we should all get behind clubs willing to lower their membership fees like this and give them our support as it will only encourage other clubs to do similar deals.

    Fairs dues Dunmurray Springs!

Dunmurry Springs is a fantastic course, I was there for the open week.
I think that there are more options to be added to that list aswell for "Beginners" etc.
The club house is due to be finished soon enough from what I remember, the structure was built and all when I was there at the start of August.

Clubhouse has been partly-built for about 3/4 years now.

I have to say it's 1 course I wouldn't join for free as had a horrid experience of it the last time I played...

every thread? there was one thread about the new deal from Castleknock and I said:
Personally I'd day it is 1 - 1.5k too dear still.

when I got the email that you get the 4 months of this year thrown in I said it was approaching good value.

On this deal 1500 a year isn't good value for Dunmurray Springs for me imo as it isn't that nice a course and it is way too far away.

In future debate the post, not the posters motives. If you accused someone apart from me of being a shill like this you would be infracted and/or banned.

Oh get off your high horse for goodness sake, those comments about being attached to the club in question were meant in a humorous fashion, hence the !!!! marks.

Oh of course, giving 4 extra months with any membership is very beneficial….. the only thing is these 4 months are in the winter when the weather is at its worst and they know themselves that people wont want to play when its blowing a gale and lashing down with rain. So its not all that great.

I never referred to you in that part of my comment, so dont know were you are coming from. I believed and still believe that 28 euro a week for membership to a golf course is great value and its making golf accessible to people on all levels of income in this recession hit times.

Castleknock on the other hand is 58 euro a week based on the 3 grand a year joining fee and that is no way an appropriated figure for a golf of its standard.

I think the price is all relative to location. Would I consider myself twice as likely in a given week to play Castleknock as Dunmurray - yes, so the difference is negated, and for me I'd never play Dunmurray twice in a week given the access, whereas Castleknock I could.

I've heard Powerscourt has leases available which would equate to €40 a week - which is more like it (although not as accessible as Castleknock for me). Of course that's inter-member rather than course specific.

I personally think €58 a week for Castleknock is good value as I live close and would easily get out for games during the week and at weekends.

You can join courses down the country for €500 I believe but what good is that if you have to drive for one and a half hours. Elm Green in Dunsink is good value too but a little further from me so I would not get to play it as much. Fair play to Dunmurray, it’s good to see clubs are being realistic about their prices.

€28 a week sounds great. I know some members there and the clubhouse is being finished this winter. The members agreed to wait until the number of members increased before completing the clubhouse as they did not want to be like South County in Brittas where the sub had to be increased to 2500 to cover the cost of the clubhouse. My friend told me that Dunmurray Springs have taken in over 50 members in the last two weeks since introducing the new membership.
