DCU Proxy Question

So far I have established I can't use

    -torrents
    -file sharing programs
-rapidshare, megaupload etc (it is possible but someone else is always downloading)

This is clearly fair as it's blocking illegal downloads and illegal downloading is wrong.

Now it seems I can't access iTunes Store which is just ludicrous.

    Anyone know anything about that?

You shouldn't have any problem accessing the iTunes store. As long as you have everything set correctly. What proxies are you currently using? If you can access any other external sites you shouldn't have any problem with the store.

It might be due to the fact that iTunes 8 has been released and servers etc. are slow.

I'll give it a few days.

    I'm using 'proxy.dcu.ie' port '8080' or so I'm told...

would torrents not work if you changed port?

You can if you have a paid account I would imagine. Not if you're a free user.

You can use rapidshít. Just if someone else on the same ip has downloaded the allowence then you'll have to wait. So people with accounts will be fine.

yeah you can use proxys i guess.

    http://proxy.org/
Try that site, i play urban dead with the boards members in the zombie survival section and it limits the amount of times you can use the site so when i hit the limit I use those to keep me playing :p

If you live on campus a lot of the ports for online gaming are open for people. Games Soc in DCU also do have some game servers running which you should be able to access.

Torrents/P2P are all blocked, not just for the reasons of you kiddies trying to waste educational resources bandwidth with the latest episode of My Super Sweet 16 UK but also security reasons as no network admin wants a lovely lamewire virus poking about.

If you use a rapid**** or similarly **** service for getting files, once you have an accoutn and are not using the free service you should be ok. Just except for the aids you may be obtaining from failing so hard.

Well how would you suggest that campus internet users go about failing less, Mr Wincest?

I've always found the situation similar. Try downloading later on in the evening when there are far fewer people around; that's always worked for me.
