Since Google Answers is now no longer in operation, Ill offer a cash reward (EUR20) here instead to anyone that can solve this by way of putting me in contact with shipper offering air shipments at approx half the USPS cost, see below. If this isnt allowed (then create Boards Answers! ;) ) please remove this part.

Im planning to setup a business which will involve importing foodstuffs from the US to Ireland.

I made up an invoice which came to about $750
Physically this was 9 boxes each 14"x15"x25" and 40lbs each (sorry all US measurements). Shipping from Zip 87109 (Albuquerque)

Shipping via USPS (usually cheapest ordinary route) is $1250 as advised by the seller.
Shipping via OceanfreightUSA.com (takes 23 days) is $595 including collection and Air Freight to LA then Sea Freight from there to here. Actual sea freight component is $238.

I must be missing something here as I can see other small scale enterprises selling similar product in the UK and they cannot be paying these shipping charges!

Seems Freightquote.com comes through for this. Note you only seem to have about 20 quotes (which you use up changing sizes etc) before they want you to call them.

I am just wondering, are there any additional expenses you will have to pay, when the goods arrive in Dublin ?

Their rates seem terrible, very close to USPS. Freightquote (via UPS) got me a $600 service (door to airport). Bongous are quoting $1400+ (not clear if to port or door).

To answer the other question, yeah there is a min EUR50 Customs clearance fee and likely something else tacked in there too, but thats standard Irish import stuff and not directly related to the import service.

    Call David at FreightWise ( http://www.freight-wise.com/contact.html ) for a quote (and/or advice).
