Photography can be be an adrenaline kick sometimes. It hasn't often been that for me lately; little or no kitesurfing, lots of photographs taken for other people's occasions and no time for me at all. It got to be demotivating which is why i have a lot of time for the guys who do stuff for money that I couldn't do - wedding photographers being a key example; some of the press guys too.

Tonight I realised that high tide was at 7 aout 15 minutes before it was due to hit. So I grabbed the camera and got stuck in traffic in Malahide. Arggh. I wanted to play with the flash and the lens on the camera happened to be the 50mm. As it was raining I wasn't in any mood to change it.

    I like stuff like this.

These were shot with the 50mm and the Speedlite. I'm not going to guess what the settings on the flash were but the zoom was set to 50mm anyway. After that I think it was ETTL II. I don't know enough about how it works to be honest. Photos were done in RAW and for the most part, the blacks were brought up in the Adobe RAW converter.

Ironically enough, I think I shoot kitesurfers because I can't get access to stuff like this very often. It was a gamble to go out and despite the greyness of the evening, I still got something out of the atmosphere. The photos are dedicated to the two girls I met who were going swimming off the High Rock by the way. Some days you just get a buzz with the camera; this evening was one, another day in Doolin with similar (but slightly more spectacular) waterworks is another and one of the days in Portugal with the pro-kitesurfers.

    I'm happy about that.

First shot is really nice, it captures the strength in the sea very well. I went past the Pure Magic shop near Dollymount bridge and it looks really nice and in a high class block of shops too.

I hear you with regards to having time for yourself, I had no work on last weekend so went down to the Pro-Drift thing on in Modello with a friend (just to keep fresh and see what we could do) I was nice shooting the cars for a change and had some good angles also. Doesnt seem to be much money in it so wont be doing it again!! :)

Keep it up with the 50mm, its a great little lens and the results will be excellent considering its price...
