Aside from eating lots of fresh unprocessed food, does anyone have any tips for dealing with adult acne (caused by a hormone imbalance) from the inside out. I know maca and keffir supplements are meant to help, does anyone know of anything else? I have tried every prescription medication but realise I'm just gonna have to change my diet if I want to get rid of it.

I've spent two-thirds of my life with spots! Sometimes I really, really hate them and if you had told the 11-year-old me that I'd STILL be getting them at 33, I would have died. At least now I feel I can control them - most of the time. I seem to have a few trigger foods - but even they change every couple of years so I can still be blindsided by them.
For me, it's a certain soft drink that comes in a red can (actually, most soft drinks are pretty dreadful) and spicy foods. For a few years, I followed the blood type diet and swore by it. Because I'm Type O, I kept away from pork and ham. It broke my heart but I felt it did me good. Have to say now that I can tuck into a ham sandwich without feeling a postule coming up as I walk away from the lunch table.
So, these things change. It might be worth keeping a food diary to see what sets things off.
If you find a cure, let me know... Good luck

Wheat and dairy can often be triggers. Try to cut them out totally for a while to see what happens. Just make sure to give it enough time for the thing you are excluding to totally detox from your system.

A good skincare regime is also important, certain things can have the opposite effect than you think, ie dries out your skin so much it causes excess oil.

I found medicine works best for me though, although those damn hormones still cause me problems at that time of the month.

Eating soya based foods can cause acne. If you eat soya yogurts or drink soya milk it's definitely worth giving it up for a while to see if there's a difference.

i think its different for everyone but my skin improves within a week if i keep away from all sugar.
i know its old but lots of water!

exercise helps too but remove your make up before exercising/sweating or it can worsen acne

Butter for me. Only on my chin. Stop using butter, no spots.

There can be a link between insulin spikes, hormone levels and acne. So its often recommended to stay away from refined carbs such as white bread and sugar. PCOS sufferers would follow a low GI diet for example.
