    Hi guys, thanks for replies.

It's a very basic technique but I can't find the CD to watch the demo :( Basically, a RAW file (pic of a tree) is processed to bring out the shadows and is loaded into Photoshop. The same file is edited to correctly expose to bring out the highlights and this is also laoded in elements. All well and good.

The problem is that the article says I can just drag and drop one image over the other to combine them...but I don't seem to be able to view both images on the same screen at the same time...

    Any thoughts?

I think when you drag one image over the other it can be seen in the layers pallet.

Would that not be that the added image would be on top of the original image..? Try just change the opacity of that layer and you should be able to see the image below creep through*.

*might be a stupid answer but I'm not quite sure what your going for.

Do you have your images set to full screen?

Hey guys thanks for getting back to me.

Yes, I would like to drop the second pic over the first and then use eraser to adjust the finer details. But I can't get both images to appear in the same window.

How would I set images to full size?

    Full-size use Ctrl + 0.
You shouldn't have any problem copying the images over even if they were locked.

Open up both images, press crtl+a on one, then ctrl+c (copy). Go to the second image and press ctrl+v (paste) and you should have both images in the same file... let me know how you get on with that :)

when you put 1 on top of the other, go across to chanels I think it is, bottom right hand corner anyways and change it {layer 1} from normal to either multiply or screen depending on what you are doing then you can add layer mask and brush in/out areas.
