    Hi all
Ive been searching the net trying to decide what i need.
basically i have home movies on an external hard drive and wish to watch them on my tv. at first i was burning them onto a disc but the quality is not great . next i plugged my hdmi lead into my laptop which worked a treat but its not very practical or energy efficient. so ive been thinking of a media player but im just now overwhelmed by it all.
ive seen the argosy unit on ibood but already have an ext.hdd and also it doesnt have a hdmi port. next i was thinking of the freecom unit but thats wireless and i dont watch streaming tv. im kinda left with the new popcorn or the hdx 1000 but i cant decide.
basically i need something that will upscale my home movies to 1080p (or near enough) and then play them from my hdd to my tv. any help greatly recieved

pixmania.ie does loads of hard drive multimedia players. They have one for 119 + delivery "LACIE LaCinema Premier 500 GB USB 2.0 Multimedia Hard Drive" which is great value, but it doesn't upscale to 1080p, just 1080i. I don't have one so can't recommend anything. The Bargain Alerts forum has loads of threads on them over the past few months. Search around there.

None of the NMT units you mention do upscaling - I don't know of anything that does. Other than that they will stream from a hard drive over HDMI to your TV.
