Windows XP "Startup Lag"

    Hi.

I have a really annoying problem with XP: After starting up none of the programs are responsive for a few minutes (1-5 mins, it varies, usually 2-3, 5 is rare). I can click on icons, but nothing happens. I have already optimised the startup itself in various ways, so now windows loads pretty quickly (well ok anyway). Once it loads though it seems to be doing something mysterious.

    Any suggestions welcome.

try and check if it's logging to network domain. switch of dhcp and put him fixed settings of ip, gateway and dns servers. usually it helps ;)

check your msconfig, it contains all the applications that will start when you log in.

also check your antivirus/anti spyware etc applications, some of these will run a startup scan that can be a little heavy.

Will check this out thx. Norton just became the prime suspect. I think there's more though.

Norton is a pc killer. Especially if your pc is a bit old. Dump it and get AVG which is free and better.

What happens when you boot up in safe mode? Is it faster?
