NTL Digibox problems..Mobile phone interference

We got NTL re-installed yesterday after being away for the summer. They gave us the new box mentioned in this thread http://boards.ie/vbulletin/showthread.php?t=2055371988&highlight=NTL+Digital

Having a few problems already in that when I select some channels it just blacks out, sometimes with sound + no vision and other times nothing except a black screen. Also the "Guide" button seems to have no effect other than to bring up a "Please Wait" message and then nothing??

Stranger still; When a mobile phone within 5 feet of the box is active (i.e. making or receiving a call/text) subtitles are activated, teh screen goes black for 2 seconds and the mini-guide pops up. Very odd.

I'm thinking this is just a dud box but anyone else having these problems?

Also, is there a landline number for NTL? That 1908 costs a bloody fortune from mobiles.

    Is that not free?

It does sounds like a dud box. Are you on the Max package? Could that be why some channels aren't working?

The phone / subtitles thing is just bizarre?

1908 is free from landlines, not from mobiles. We have no landline in the apartment.

Not the max package but channels that we have subscribed to are blacked out sometimes, very odd.

I agree about the mobile phone interference being bizarre but it is definitely the cause of the interference :confused:

I used to work in telecomms, and the 190x is supposed to be a reciprocal freephone customer service number between all networks including mobile phone networks. If your mobile phone provider is charging you for ringing it, they would be in breach of the numbering conventions. Out of curiousity, who is your provider?

    02

I only copped because last year I was on hold for about an hour trying to book the Ricky hatton fight on PPV.

is it possible that they redirected you to a different number because 1908 should be free?

it might come up on your call history on the o2 site if ya don't want the bother of ringing them.
