Setting up HDMI

Hey I'm having a nightmare trying to set up my PS3 HDMI, I bought the cable from game, and I've got a Sony 32" Bravia.

Basically, my PS3 recongises the HDMI cable and when I select broadcast HD audio and visual the screen goes blank, so I switch over to the extension I have the HDMI cable plugged into and its just a pink flickering screen. What should I do? Am I supposed to have the scart in as well, its the only way I can see the options for configuration.

    Regards,
    Jonathan

Try holding down the power button on the PS3 for about 12 seconds.
I had an issue where i moved the ps3 from a HDMI tv to a scart tv.
When i plugged it into the scart tv it wouldnt find a picure on the AV channels.
I held down the power button for about 10-15 seconds and the ps3 reset and the scart worked..

I can get the scart working no problem, its the HD thats annoying. I get the screen that tells me it has detected my HDMI cable, I click yes and the screen goes black, so I swap over to the extension my HDMI cable is plugged into and I get a pink flickering screen.

I tried setting up the HDMI cable through the Display configuration and I blindly did it by sound. And I swap over to the HDMI extension, the pink screen is gone but now I have a black screen which says 1080i/60 at the top left.

I have the sound, as I have the white and red cables plugged in on this extension too.

What do you mean by "swap extension on HDMI cable"?
How exactly is your PS3 connected to TV. Direct connection from PS3 to HDMI port to TV?

that could be your problem, it happened me the first time i set up mine, it recognises the phono leads and tries to feed video thru that aswell, take out those leads and just have the striaght HD lead to the tv (use tv sound for the time being before picking up a digital coaxel cable) should work that way!

When your setting up with a HDMI cable , it should be the " Only " connection from your console to the TV.

The PS3 will not set up on more than one output at the same time.
Scart and HDMI will not work simultanously , its one or the other.

If you have it set up with scart , power off the console , remove all connections except the HDMI , and power up holding the power button for about 10 seconds.

Note that the TV should be on the correct HDMI channel before powering up , if its not the PS3 will not detect the TV and you get no picture.

Once you have the PS3 set up for HDMI , thats all it will work on , if at any point you want to change back to scart , you have to do the setup process again with just the scart connected.

Great thanks mathias! Thats exactly the answer I was looking for :)

EDIT: AHH I feel like I'm going crazy, I did exactly what you said, powered off, held down the power button with just the HDMI cable connected and on the right channel. I still get the pink screen! I don't think its the cable cause when I had the scart in before it detected the HDMI so could it be my tv? Its a Sony Bravia 32".

I had murder trying to get my PS3 to talk to my plasma - even to the point of sending my TV off to be repaired (€120 down the drain!) only to be told that it was working fine! I eventually got it to work as follows:

    Connect both HDMI and Scart.
On startup, if it recognises HDMI cable, select NOT to use HD.
Using Scart and appropriate TV channel, go into the display settings.
Change settings to HD set up and get ready to click 'X' to get them going.
At the same time you confirm the settings, change the TV to the HDMI channel (i.e. press both buttons together).

It worked for me anyway! Note that it didn't work if i went to HDMI channel before changing settings.

Are you sure about this. There is an option in the setting to use the HDMI for visual output only and the scart output for sound. I don't so this myself but have seen the option.

That's the setup I currently have and it works fine.

You're right. On certain tvs, the Bravia anyway has an extension that allows HDMI and scart Audio output.
