Disaster movie protest

I've been thinking about this for a while and I've decided I want to cause some mayhem in protest form at a screening for this piece of ****. Get a few together and watch half the film and then just all stand up turn to the audience and hurl abuse at them.
    Would anybody else be interested?

They've gone a step too far with this one. How cynical are they to have written and shot half the 'parodies' for films that haven't even been released. Its sickening to think of the decent films these pricks are keeping out of cinema screens.

Maybe you should put your energy into something more constructive. There's plenty of noble causes out there that could benefit from your enthusiasm.

On the other hand...if you can't rant on the internet, where can you rant? :D

While I hate these kind of movies - they have tarnished the good reputation of some of the classics - I don't think you should resort to abuse. Plus, it would make a bigger impact it a premiere or major venue rather than......Ireland.

It's unfortunate but the demand seems to be there and the investors are there. A protest will not solve or change anything really. Just get you kicked out, banned from cinema and maybe worse...

    🤪

So, you want to protest by increasing the films box office receipts, and then ruin the film for other cinema goers?

    Well done you...

I'll be buying a ticket for some proper film don't worry and watchign that first.

And yes I want to insult and shame the other film goers for propagating this cinematic cancer.

    That idea is totally idiotic.

These films suck but if people want to go to see them then that's their problem.
How does it affect you in anyway if you just ignore the bleedin thing.

Those films are just a big **** you to the film going public and I don't like that. As I said already they take up loads of screen time for films that somebody has actually taken care to make.

They aren't really though...To a certain extent it's because of the "film going public" that these films exist - if they did not have any interest, the film would not make money, sequels would not be released.

As much as the idea is crazy I'd have to agree with the principal of doing something

what annoy's me about these films is not that they are so so bad (which we can all agree) its that they are ruining the chances say for any decent spoofs to get a chance, I mean look at classics like Hot shots/space balls etc. Funny in their day maybe aged a bit now but they have a coherant story and dont't just throw in random spoof after random spoof.

Like I loved that film Not another teen movie years ago think it was around 2001, I'd hate to think that these welps today put them in the same bracket.

    Rant over

That's a stupid idea. Sorry, there's no other way to describe it. The best way that film fans can protest against this movie is by completely ignoring it & pretending it doesn't exist. That's the only way this kind of drivel is going to be abandoned by studios.

That approach has failed me so far.
Date Movie led to Epic movie led to Meet the Spartans led to this. Everyone as **** and offensive as the next. If anything my protest will let me sleep at night knowing that I did all I could.

I get what you're saying like. But there's only one way to fight the production of these cynical cash-ins, and that's by hitting the studios where it hurts; their wallets. They won't give two sh*ts that a bunch of random Internet paddies got all hot and bothered in a cinema. In fact, neither will those you protest against care much, who paid into the movie & will likely try to enjoy it more just to spite you.

Once these films tank & the realisation they're not profitable they will stop being made. The most you can do, like protesting against Uwe Boll, is by ignoring the movie, pretending it doesn't exist, and giving your money over to worthy Independent productions.

You are really not in a position to decide what is 'quality' entertainment for anyyone else - only yourself and your kids if you have any. Your also not in a position to say that the only films people should be able to see in peace are ones which fit your definition of quality.

If you dont like it then you are free to not go to see it thats the way it works.

If you name ANY movie EVER then I guarantee some body somewhere didnt like it. Whats stopping them doing the same for you if you are in the audience ? Probably the fact that they have better things to do with their time.

They are a blight, it's true. Even the movie posters for these things make me angry.

these guys have a lot to answer for..

    http://www.imdb.com/name/nm0294997/

    http://www.imdb.com/name/nm0783536/

The only thing that could possibly work to end this is that someone
(the Zuckers?) comes along and makes a really goddamn funny movie with an actual plot not just a bunch of half assed toilet humour parodies .

Then maybe , just maybe people wouldn't stand for the rubbish these guys churn out.

Normally I would agree with you, nobody is a final judge on taste. But I think a special case should be made for these films. They have no merit in them whatsoever. Event the ****test of films I can usually appreciate somtehing in them.

Climate Expert there are a lot of weak points in your Master plan - could you please add me to your mailing list and perhaps I'll join in enthusiastically with your next great venture?

    - We could stone Koala Bears who support Nestle or perhaps just poison any rivers that have featured in Movies made by Warner Bros?

As with other things where you don't like the business - vote with your feet... Don't like it, don't go and hope that things run out of steam. You're not going to like everything that is popular to the masses so just go to what you enjoy and ignore the other tripe.

    🤪

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 19,976 ✭✭✭✭humanji

And you do realise that by drawing attention to the film, you're giving it free advertising and they'll draw a bigger crowd, making the creators more money and thus allowing them to make more films.

It's quite simple, by paying to see the movie, you are contributing to the success of the film.

That genre is easy to churn out at a low cost, and make a profit, as it appeals to the lowest common denominator who contribute to a decent portion of the cinema going public

Also I don't see it keeping decent films out of Screen, IFI, The Lighthouse etc.

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 1,393 ✭✭✭Climate Expert

Have any of you read my posts. Voting with your feet does not work. I will not be paying into the movie.
I just want to feel better in myself by ruining it for others and insulting people.

TBH Id knock you out if you started insulting me when I was trying to watch a movie.

Not a personal treat or anything but the cinema experience needs all the right qualities and cardboard popcorn or flat coke and dropping my ice cream can push me over the edge and ruin the experience but some random dude pointing at me and having a go is just not on and not what I would have paid for.

If I wanted theatrics Id go to a pantomime.

Of course it works. These movies are self-fulfilling prophecies; there really is no such thing as bad publicity & so long as these movies are talked about, you will get the idlely curious going to see it. Heck, for all the big talk, I'm sure there are people on this forum who will drift in to watch it, if only to see just how awful it is.

Heck, you yourself spoke of putting money into the pocket of these idiots. How are you any better? Hell you're worse if you were to actively disrupt people's "enjoyment" :)

Just read that back to yourself as many times as it takes , and ask around for a good therapist.

Why not channel that energy into something less destructive , like this ....

here , maybe this will make you feel better
box office receipts in chronological order
Scary Movie $90,672,025 (not same director but definitely a progenitor)
    Date Movie $48,478,234
    Epic Movie $39,666,075
    Meet the Spartans $38,011,770
Disaster movie: $10,602,140 (admittedly final receipts aren't in but thats a good estimate)

look like a series that going to last much longer? , all thats kept it going to date are its extremely low budgets.

I think people have been 'voting' with their feet.

But then you'd be sent to prison where most of the fans of these types of movies are, and they'll show marathons of all the movies over and over again to appease them. You can't win :D

it could be so much easier just to stand outside the cinema giving leaflets to all the people who go in about getting a free lobotmy.

they dont need them anymore so why not make a tidy sum out of it.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 11,505 ✭✭✭✭DirkVoodoo

I think most people are intelligent enough to realise these movies are crap and getting crapper with every installment.

No protest needed, once the studio idiots realise that they have flogged this horse to death, they won't bankroll another one. Its a passing fad, just ignore it and go watch some quality movies instead.

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 80 ✭✭COOKSTER

Here's a nugget 4 ya. What happens when people start creating a fuss about something. All the sheep say "whats the fuss?", "have you heard the fuss?" and they go and see what the fuss is about. If you think its #### then just say its####. If you create a fuss then you're the one to blame when the movie makes a profit.
If you got this little venture off the ground and got a group of heads in galway, waterford and limerick to "protest" too, can you imagine the headlines in most of the countries press. Free publicity for the movie maker, one way to ensure that the films run is extended.
I hadn't even heard of it til I came across this thread, but then, I'm a mushroom

Of the many thousands of posters here on Boards.ie I'd have thought your dodgy DNA and grotty genes would have allowed ya to enjoy this Movie to the fullest extent ? [???]

    - There's a group of us travelling on Monday week to capture and torture the entire cast of Happy Feet in a bold statement against their anti-Semitic rhetoric and intolerance of Soya based popcorn substitutes in the major Cinema chains across Tibet. We're looking for somebody with panache and a couple of missing chromosomes..........

Honestly though who brings up stronger and better looking to back up their arguments on the internet? Raiser could be the smartest most handsome body builder in the world for all you know and it still wouldn't add (or detract) from his argument just like it doesn't yours*.

    * well in your case it does detract as it makes you seem like an idiot.

Why do you assume my room is dark? You should see the beautiful bright vista I look out onto from my computer desk, dappled sunlight showing up the grainy sinews of my biceps as I type away on my post-doctoral progress report thinking about that asian beauty that I had last night.
