Wildlife with 70-300 IS C + C

    I recently bought a Canon 70-300 IS, which I have been using with my 30D and I find it's great for creating more opportunities to take wildlife photos (was using 28-135 for this before). I don't go out with the express purpose of photographing animals, etc but with this lens, it's just easier. Here's a few of my photos that I'm looking for C+C on.

    Had to bump the ISO up to ~800 I think because it was quite dull and I was at f/5.6 with the lens, but I was still getting some blurry photos. Any tips?

    I find it difficult to get the bee and flower in focus together (mainly the bee). High ISO again here but is it just a case of it being difficult in dull light?

    Probably the clearest one I got, but i wish I had a macro lens for this. This was as close as i could get with the telephoto at full zoom.

    Same problem as with the bee here: difficult to get the butterfly in focus.

    That's it for now, although there are more in my flickr account (link below). Any comments or tips are welcome. It's a great lens by the way, very sharp and with good colours. And the IS is amazing!

    Great pictures Rob, i love the bird (some sort of Finch ???) and the butterfly. I can see what you mean about gettting the bee and the flower into focus, i need to invest in a Macro lens to get shots like that too.

    Is that some sort of white spider on the flower of the third photo ?

    Over all though nice photo's.

    Cheers, yeah that's a little white spider eating a hover fly on a daisy. Would have been great with a macro lens, although I guess that would make it harder to get everything in focus, with enough light. So maybe a macro lens and a ring light is what I'm after. $$$
