Laser Card vs TCD Epay

It won't accept my card number :( no matter which one I use. I've tried the big 19 digit one and the smaller 9 digit one (which is actually called the card number) below. I only have a student plus account but I figured a laser card's a laser card.

EDIT: was looking at the FAQ on the epay site and it helpfully announces that the 3 digit number on the back of a laser card which looks like a cvn is not a cvn, just an arsehole. So I stuck in the 19 digit number again in the card number field and left the cvn number blank and I think it worked. Feel kinda stupid now actually...

What were you talking about? Might help others

Basically, with a Laser card there's no need to have the 3-digit Security Code (CVN I think) when using it online.

Yep that seems to be the case. Wonder what the point of the 3 digit number on the back of laser cards is then...
Oh and the other part that was confusing on the epay site is "card number". On laser cards technically the "card number" is only digits 11-18 in the 19 digit number (they're also written below by themselves) but when I entered just those, it wouldn't accept it. It wanted the whole 19 digits.

I think they always want the full 19 digit number.

I had a bit of difficulty in paying my first rent payment. It was over 2000 so I couldn't use the laser card, and my student credit card has a limit of 450. Had to use someone elses in the end but it will be awkward for paying this person back.

While we're on the subject of Lasers, I got a Laser Maestro sent out to me by AIB. I'm now on a student plus account, does that come with any overdraft or do I have to apply for one, does anyone know?

You have to apply for one.

I think it's a bit awkward with the only option to pay being either a credit or laser card. Surely they could have a bank giro, standing order or payment by cheque, etc. system for those people who don't have credit cards.

Like it's especially the case for students who are paying the rent themselves. A lot of students don't have either a laser or credit card. Also, many laser cards have a €1500 or €2000 transaction limit which would mean you couldn't pay if you only had a laser card, as is the case with many students.

Oh the hassle with laser cards.

I ordered one several weeks ago from my bank of ireland branch, the week before I was going to Greece. They said it'd take three days, which'd mean I'd get it the day before I flew out. My mam goes in to collect it and they say they keyed in something wrong, and have to re-order it...which'd take another three days. Feck that.

So I came back from my week long holiday, I ring up to see if they can just post it out or something and they were like "no no, security reasons" etc. Fair enough. So then they were like "just hold on a second and I'll double check that it's here".

No worries, i thought, as I ordered it AGAIN two weeks ago. "Yep it's here". Super. "You ordered a passcard?". "Errmmm, no a laser card." "Oh, well we have a passcard here for you" "Oh, well....eh...is that just an ATM card?" "Yep, exactly" "Err well i have one of those already thanks".
"Oh, well you have to be approved for a laser card...it depends on your account balance and your income so maybe that's what happened, I'll have to ring the headquarters and ring you back"

So I get a call back not too long later....

"Hi, sorry but there was a mistake and a passcard was ordered by accident. I have now ordered you a laser card and it'll be in on Monday. Is that ok? You aren't going away or anything are you?"

Eh....no, I've fecking gone and come back since I ordered it.

    Yeah, nice rant there

Well to provide a contrast to the previous poster, I ordered a Laser Card from my BOI branch last Thursday and went in yesterday to get it and there it was, no problem whatsoever!

Yeah, but that's just for the fees. I'm talking about paying the rent for Trinity Hall.

Payment by method other than that prescribed may be deemed invalid and, if processed by the College, at its discretion will incur an administrative charge.

I take that to mean if you bitch at them enough they'll take a cheque/cash/whatever.

    It's a pretty ridiculous system.

I am trying to pay my first lot of rent by Laser. The rent comes to €1430 but it is automatically lumped with the utilities of €300 which is ok, I have enough to pay them at the moment. However, there is a €1500 limit on Laser transactions with Trinity which is ok, except for the fact that they won't let you split the utilities and rent payments seperately, therefore making it impossible to pay this by Laser. A bit ridiculous really, why don't they have an option to split the payment into two transactions.

Also, I don't really think it's fair the lack of notice they give for quite large fees. I mean, I received my Halls pack on Monday and discovered I have to pay €1430 by the 14th of September? That's taking the piss a bit. I mean, it's a lot of money to gather straight away and I struggled to get it together.

Can't complain too much, I mean, I got my place in Halls, so I have accomodation and I'm going to college. I'm pretty lucky really, just a few things which annoyed me.

I just tried to pay my fees using epay, and after clicking on the 'pay now' button the server timed out. Now what do i do? Did the payment go through at all? If i start again could i be charged twice? Feck.

Anyone who paid their 'free fees' online on epay received their confirmation email yet?
