As with all license applications it will depend on the district, the reason you're getting the gun and how well you present that reason to the firearms officer or Super.

From reading threads about handgun applications before here, the key points I remember are:
    • Make sure you're a member of a club which is authorised for the kind of shooting you intend to do.
    • The better your security arrangements, the better chance you have.

After that, it just boils down to the local Super. If they've issued a bunch of centre-fire pistol certs then they're unlikely to have much of a problem with a .22 revolver. On the other hand, if their attitude to handguns is "not without a court case" then you'll have a tougher time.

It's also worth pointing out that if you're not already in a club, join the local club - odds are they'll have a club gun you can use to see if a .22lr revolver is really what you want to shoot. All too often these things look droolworthy, only to find when you shoot it that they're not capable of hitting the side of a barn. From the inside.

A good basic pistol safety course is also recommended.

Recently a number of new applications that I know of, have been asked to complete a course first.

Not the first time, and won't be the last, and it's not a bad idea.
Mind you, the cynical side of me that likes a good joke would like to recommend asking the Superintendent for a list of courses he'd accept :D
