    Hey all,

I'm just wondering does anyone know why my TV, along with a load of other peoples TV's, are experienceing really bad cutoff particularly on Irish TV. Its really bad on my TV at the moment as Im looking at it all that is visible on the "RTE ONE" logo in the top right corner of the screen is the "RT". This is really annoying and its happening to loads of people I talk to about it! Whats up with it....is it the TV or the broadcasting???

    Daawaa...

RTE are broadcasting in 16:9 (I believe) widescreen format, which results in televisions that are not capable of handeling, or not properly configured to handle such an image cropping it to fit to a 4:3 size. The most important parts of the image will typically be present, but there is information loss on the left and right sides.

It sounds like you're watching a widescreen broadcast on a normal 4:3 television. Are you watching analogue or digital?

Perhaps RTE are transmitting the widescreen version of a program on the analogue channel, causing the channel ID to get chopped off.

yeah thats right! It leaves out say bits of text in a title sequence or subtitles. Have they any plans to fix this do you know? i mean ive seen it happen on so many tv sets...its ridiculus!

No, nearly all TV programs filmed in the last few yrs are all in widescreen. Must be an old TV to be 4:3

Press Services, then 4 & then 1 and change Picture format to 16:9. And put TV aspect ratio to AUTO.

No worries. Sounds like you have the Sky box on default settings. Change video output to RGB also if it is on PAL, much better picture quality.

    Awesome! Thanks guy!

The only thing i couldn't find/do was changing the aspect ratio to auto. Any other tips for getting the best outta the sky box?
