Brendan Cummins; Michael Kavanagh, Noel Hickey, Jackie Tyrell; Tommy Walsh, Conor O'Mahoney, JJ Delaney; Cha Fitzpatrick, Shane McGrath; Ben O'Connor, Henry Shefflin, Eoin Larkin; Eddie Brennan, Eoin Kelly (Waterford), Joe Canning.

Not sure if Canning should make it on one great performance. Mullane had a few good games and was Waterfords best forward yesterday.

I don't think Shefflin should be on, 6 points from play in 4 games v. Offaly,Wexford, cork, waterford when all were easily won with big scores--Mullane got 8 points alone v. Clare. One great point yesterday alright. Cummins lucky enough if he gets it,a few saves but also poor for goals v. cork, waterford whereas Ryan let in none whether he had much to do or not.

Ryan was just pcuking it back out really, he never got tested really. He made a good save from a Eoin Kelly free before half time yesterday. As one of the lads in one of the papers said today. He could have put up a hammock and let Tyrell take the puckouts and he wouldn't have been bothered throughout the championship. The other contenders are Cusack, Hennessy or Fitzhenry neither of which really impressed.

Have to agree about shefflin, but the one i would have in his place would be Seamus Callinan ( being biased but i think he was the find of the year)

9 points all from frees, goal a mistake from McGarry after a speculative shot from distance. Kelly wasn't involved in open play much. Mullane was the best forward.

Think he got a mention as young player of the year.

Mullane was without doubt our finest forward Sunday...
Thank god for Kelly with the frees and thank god for McGarrys slippy fingers but ya, Mullane was the only one with a bit of spark in him.. Eoin McGrath got pissed off with himself 15 minutes into the game, Dan was just shocking all year, Declan Preder is gone beyond his prime (which we saw weeks ago..) and Stephen Molumphy, while a fiesty little runner and a great workhorse, didnt have the experience to take chances or get himself stuck in that much...

OP- I was well pissed off with the lads predictions, ok, we've established that Kilkenny's current team is the best they've (arguably) ever produced, but come on, the Déise get to the final and only Eoin Kelly gets on? What about Mullane? Tony Browne had a great year, Ken Mcgrath, while it wasn't his best season, still proved himself to be a fine skillful and spirited back...

I don't know! Maybe 'm just biased and anti-Kilkenny at the moment but surely it wont be so Cats-dominated?

They never even mentioned David O'Callaghan, he played brilliant all summer.

You could easily have a Kilkenny 1-15. Don't know if thats been done before. :) I wouldn't argue if there was tbh.
I think Eoin Kelly was lucky to be on that team. He is something of a glory hunter imo and not a team player at all. The final was a typical example, he really needed to drop a few of those frees in because Waterford were so far behind they needed a few goals. He often goes for points from impossible angles aswell when better options exist. It almost seems he just wants to boost his own personal scoring average which can be to the detriment of the team!
Mullane i would have on the team, he has a great attitude, great workrate and showed his team mates how its done in the final.
Overall though the team the guys picked is a good one, and i wouldn't have much arguments really.

Absolutely. Even then, Mullane was nowhere near the level he's been at all year but for me, he definitely deserves a place (ahead of Canning I'd say). Tony Browne too (not sure which of the wing backs to drop though, probably Tommy Walsh), though not Ken McGrath (partly a victim of being asked to play a less spectacular role for much of the year).

As for Shefflin, he contributed a lot more from play than the 0-4 he got - he was instrumental in a lot of Kilkenny's best moves so there was more to his year than just free-taking.

For me, Tipp are the team hardest done by - Callinan was superb and could well be worth Shefflin's place, while I think it's a tight call between Paul Curran and Noel Hickey at full-back. Lar Corbett and Eoin Kelly also had very good years but as usual, it's unfortunate for a few players that the full-forward line is generally the most competitive one when trying to choose these types of teams.

I disagree - Kelly is by far Waterford's most talented forward (maybe even their most talented hurler) and from Eoin McGrath to Mullane to Shanahan to Kelly, the Waterford forwards all take on riskier shots than those in other counties. So why not your best forward too? Kelly is a great team player in that he does a great job for his team (much more consistenyly this year than in previous years as well) according to the way that team is set up and you can't ask any more of him than that.
