Is it just me or does anyone else think that they are charging through the arse in sounds around?

Not that im comparing it to thomann or anything but a few products in sounds around are also available in music maker but if you buy in sounds around youll probably be paying an extra 20 or 30 quid in most cases.

    Any thoughts?

bought 1210's and a gemini 626 mixer in there about 4 years ago. think they were priced fairly reasonable.

whats the shop like these days? wouldnt mind getting a new sound rig

Stay away from sounds around at all costs ! ! !
Robbing feckers and the bloke in there is ignorant as f***. You want to check out Aquarius - Sound and lighting sound blokes that know there stuff. Obviously wont beat internet prices but its where I would go if I have to buy in shop.

Dont know how place is still open, its not from the owners charm and wit anyway,I think they think that they have a lincense to overcharge because they only real place in town that sells music equipment,a set of basic needles and base will set you back bout 200,robbery,stay away from the kip

I rang them looking for a price for a set of Technics 1210s. 600 euro a piece they were asking for. I hung up and got them from the uk for 1380 euro which included a djm400 mixer, headphones and cartridges/needles and they threw in a mic. Ordered it friday and was deliverd to my house monday morning by 11am.

ha and their website says that they have a pioneer sale on now, I wonder what helpless souls get their gear there, cause someone must be buying from them

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 5,672 ✭✭✭seannash

probably people who are still afraid to buy off the internet because theyll get ripped off:D

i would never go into them, as ken says Aquarius Sound in cellbridge

Just treat them as a convenience store, I would only use them if im stuck for something in a hurry that I needed on the night such as smoke fluid or patch cables. This outlet is in premium retail space in the city compared to Aquarius and other on line stores so they are entitled to some mark up.

I don’t understand how any high street sound & light suppliers can survive in any city with the likes of soundstore.ie about but there again people will pay for the convenience of NOW and also many people are still computer illiterate or else do not have access to a credit card.

A pair of Ortofon Pro S replacement stylus cost 90euro in that shop.
The same cartridges cost 20 pounds sterling for a pair at HardToFindRecords in birmingham.
    32 yo yo's including shipping.

Online is the way to shop for gear. Leave these rip-off merchants behind.
The same applies to buying vinyl.

where would be the best place to get a set of concordes?

    A rip off alright,avoid,.

Try Hard To Find Records online.
Besides the vinyl, you'll find some very decent deals on dj equipment, including the concordes.

    www.htfr.com

These guys are c*nts to deal with though so beware! Basically only EVER order off HTFR as a last resort...

...sorry to hear your bad experience with HTFR Giles, never had a problem meself, and have gotten good deals on equipment and vinyl.
    All delivered promptly too.

If vinyl is your thing, best bet is www.discogs.com
Shop around and you will most find those long lost gems for reasonable prices.

I was in birmingham last year and made the effort to visit the HTFR shop in the city centre.
Its DJ mecca lads. Massive shot. Nice crew working there and the place is wall to wall turntables. No waiting for a free deck. Loved it.

That said I've always bought my equipment from Thomann, never had a problem, and enjoy getting the "Hot Deals" catalogue in the mail every couple of months.

I have used these a few times last time i got an order with them it never came, so i rang up and they told me they would post me a form to fill in to get a refund . two weeks later still nothing. so i rang them every week for about 2 months and they would always say the form is in the post. i eventually got a refund. Placed the same order with them again last week, hoping the same thing wouldnt happen twice. and its already overdue. probably the wrong thing to do but i'll soon see. these guys could'nt give a flying f**k about you or your order and there customer care is nearly non existent. if you can help it DONT USE THEM.

Dont agree mate. I've bought a lot of equipment and vinyl from hard to find and I've never had a problem. Very quick delivery if you pay over a certain amount. I bought a set of KRK's with seperate sub woofer 6 months ago and I got them in 2 days. Very very good prices aswell.

I must say I found the bloke in there sound. It must be difficult to compete with the likes of Thomann - the shop is well stocked, in a good location and came in handy if I needed something in a hurry.

Derek, now be honest, do you work in Sounds Around?

Dj Box up in Tallaght is the job, was only up there a couple of weeks ago and they were sound and very helpful

*disclaimer I do not work in dj box

DJ BOX in Tallagh is a pretty good shop, nice staff and good equipment. Just a little tricky to find :)

gave sounds around a lot of money over the years, bought my first set of geminis in there, then a set of 1210s 11 years ago. then bought a pioneer ddj, went in there, overpriced, gave my dollar to the small shop on the queys at temple bar, was way cheaper.
