Create a Team to Beat Kilkenny

With all the talk of Kilkenny being the greatest team of all time, and not having a player in their squad that you would want to swap for any other player in the country, I thought it would be interesting to see if we could come up with a team of players from anywhere else in Ireland that would be capable of beating them. Really I'm looking for a way to downplay KK's dominance (can't stand them) but it could make for a decent thread. I'm sure there's a team out there who could give them a bit of their own medicine. I'll start it off with the forward line of:

    Eoin Kelly (Waterford)

    Eoin Kelly (Tipperary)

    Joe Canning (Galway)

Throw in the Clare forward line that hit Wfd for 2-26 not long ago and the Tipp backs that held Kilkenny to 1-10 in the league semi in Nowlan--but then people will say Wfd had trouble in the camp and kilkenny weren't trying that day.But i thought Kilkenny under Cody didn't ever lose or not try??

Tipp didn't hold a forward line that included Henry Shefflin and Eoin Larkin to 1-10. And Noel Hickey and Derek Lyng also missed that Tipp match. Let's not rewrite. Having said that, Kilkenny are beatable. It's only a question of time, not a question of All Stars.

    1. Joe Canning
    2. Joe Canning
    3. Joe Canning
    4. Joe Canning
    5. Joe Canning
    6. Joe Canning
    7. Joe Canning
    8. Joe Canning
    9. Joe Canning
    10. Joe Canning
    11. Joe Canning
    12. Joe Canning
    13. Joe Canning
    14. Joe Canning
    15. Joe Canning

Might run them to 5-6 points.

EDIT: Yerrah throw in Cú Cullan and a Young Christy Ring in each Corner, to bring it down to 2 points.

I think the only way any team would come near Kilkenny in the All Ireland series, is if Kilkenny were allowed to enter a second team.

Being from Waterford, my heart is broken but you have to applaud excellence.
People have been making excuses for Waterford's performance, but the way I see it is, that Kilkenny didn't allow them to play. They couldn't even get a hand pass away as the Kilkenny lads smothered them.

I would be surprised if Kilkenny don't win the next 3 or 4 AllIreland titles as well. I'd go so far as to put my money where my mouth is!

I'd love to know what was said at half time in the Waterford dressing room. How do you even start to try to rise a team that are truly beaten. Killkenny probably have had tougher training games.

Kilkenny reserves are the second best team in Ireland.Sad but probably true.

And Chuck Norris and Paul O'Connell.

This Kilkenny team would beat any star XV comprised from all other counties. Firstly because they have better players than any other counties in most positions (something that will be reflected in the all-star selections i would think). Secondly because they have a great team spirit and understanding that the star team wouldn't have and would probably need to be playing together for a while as a team in order to achieve.

Cork were beaten by 9 points, but missed a few goal opportunities and Joe Deane didn't perform. If those things came right, it would have been much closer. I think Kilkenny are beatable but you've got to play the game of your life, or at least have the breaks go your way (like they always seem to have)

This is how any other county team would beat Kilkenny.

As soon as the sliotar is thrown in all of the opposing team players use the hurls to break one of the Kilkenny players legs.

the ref and officials cannot catch everyone so there will be a few red cards and some yellow ones also.

This will slow the Kilkenny boys down a bit and allow the other team use this to their advantage.

I don't condone voilence on the pitch btw.

It was an awsome display of hurling on sunday, and hats off to the cats for their incredible performance.

I was trying to pick a team that might beat them but couldn't, Kilkenny have the best players in a majority of positions, sad but true.

How many players from other counties can we honestly say would get in the Kilkenny team? Joe Canning would have to be there and maybe Ben O'Connor, in place of Comerford and Fogarty. After that I'd be struggling to think of too many others that would get in. Brendan Cummins or Damien Fitz maybe.

Brian Hogan is not a bad hurler, but he is definitely not the strongest link in the Kilkenny half back line. Ronan Curran or Ken McGrath are better hurlers than him and could take his place. Cusack or Cummins could replace PJ Ryan in goal.

Brendan Cummins or Damien Fitz definitely, ollie canning, a centre back from curran, o'mahoney or mcgrath, shane mcgrath in midfield and either of the two Eoin Kelly's

Waterford's Eoin Kelly wouldn't get in the KK team, the Tipp version would alright, I somehow forgot about him.

Ollie Canning is getting on a bit now and Galway probably have a better option at the moment in Fergal Moore, one of the few genuinely classy players we have.

On this years form i would defo have waterfords Eoin Kelly ahead of Richie Power

PJ Ryan didn't concede a goal all year, how can that be improved?

I don't think anyone got close enough to the Kilkenny goal to even try!

A hurling goalkeeper's distribution from puck-outs will always be incredibly important to how well his team performs - look at how Cusack's contributed to Cork's approach in the team's best years. Cummins concentrates more on length, whereas Kilkenny's approach is to try and win ball over their heads & scrap for breaking ball, both of which they're masters at.

Very few hurling keepers make saves that other top keepers couldn't make - it's the distribution that sets them apart.
