Trees in Avondale, Leixlip

Recently a number of trees in Avondale were cut down without any notice. A really lovely cherry blossom right outside our house was amongst those cut down. The contractors told my wife that they were doing it for the council because of damage to the footpaths.
However, apparently (I just heard) they were cut down in error.
Does anyone know of a contact within the council where I can follow this up on? What department look after roadside trees?
