    anyone remember collecting "fancy paper"???:D
was so jealous of all my friends when they got new ones,
it smelt so good, we used to have swop evenings where we could
get nicer ones if we had too much of a certain one....:)
    ah the memories...

God ya! I remember about 5th class or so and all of a sudden everybody had these collections of 'fancy paper'. We used to swap them at breaktime!
About 12 years later a younger cousin did the same thing in her school.
Weird - wonder if they still do it?

god yeah....I was so addicted to that stuff :D. Remember the stuff that had the kind of clown (peridot?) on it. We used to keep it in photo albums

I was only telling my boyfriend the other night about swapping fancy papers,he thought it strange.
We used to do before school and during breaks, remember the ones that opened out and had envelopes and sheets of paper in it.I remember my favourite was a clown face and it cost 58p

I once confused fancy paper with eating paper. I dont know if any of the girls who collected it ever ate it, but its not something I'd recommend.

We called them fancy pages down here in the south east, lol I remember they were banned from the school they caused so much distraction! I had tonnes of the stuff. Also collect fancy rubbers (erasers for the dirty minded :pac:). We used to swap them & spend hours after school in each other's halls. Happy days though :D

I used to keep my fancies in an old Dairy Milk chocolates box. Ah...the memories! Roches Stores was like a drug den for me.

Even to this day I get a little bit excited about stationery shops, the Paperchase in the Borders bookshop in Blanch gives me slight palpitations.

My school had a variation on the theme, we also used to smooth out the coulourful foil that sweets were wrapped in and save it.

Yep, I had a huge collection.. Took great pride in them.. My faves were the food and drink ones, you know like with pictures of ice-cream sundaes and hotdogs on them, in really bright colours.. I can still remember the smell from them, really sweet... Ah memories :p

I tried to explain the "Fancy paper" phenomenon to my sister who's now 18, she looked at me like I had 10 heads, but I loved it back in the day. I still have a sheet from a very ornate writing set that my Granny bought for me, and my neighbour who often babysat me (and spoiled me rotten with new papers) wrote a lovely note to Granny on my behalf in her beautiful calligraphy, and I scrawled on the bottom of the page "I love you Granny". I cried when I found it.

Can fancy paper still be bought?

PS My friends and I graduated to collecting animal or fruit shaped soaps a few years later, the Body Shop made a fortune off us!!!

If you try some of the stationary or office supply stores some have kind of fancy paper and all the matching stuff like rulers etc but it's not really the same.

Fancies!! Yesssss! I remember Roches Stores used to do a nice line in ones that looked like cakes, donut, cream cake etc. I think my sis still has hers somewhere (hoarder) - mine are probably in with her collection. My first and only shoplifting experience was a strawberry fancies pad when I was about 11. Still guilt ridden obv.
