I was just using up the end of a jar of Mustard yesterday and
it was Best Before November 2008.

I'm just curious how long it would last beyond this date?

Is it one of those foods that lasts for ages beyond the best
before date due to the fact that it is too "strong flavoured"
for bacteria to survive in there?

(Was making Mustard+Butter on toast at the time for relevance:))

No problems with mustard - I never bother with best before dates on it.

There is no way bacteria would survive in a sealed mustard pot. Too hostile an environment.

If it starts to turn brown or it gets a firm crust on top of the mustard in the jar then i'd chuck it. Expiry dates are on everything but they don't always apply. I have used mustard that was three years past its date.

Its not like its an expensive product now is it? If in doubt throw it out.
