Confused with DIT / Course Start

Ok so I am starting the MSc in Marketing DT344 next week and I'm just a bit confused about the whole thing. It says on the Cousre Overview on the website that the start date is the 15th Sept which is Monday week.

The problem is that so far all I have got from DIT is a letter saying registration is on Friday 19th Sept @ 11.30 and a bank giro. Does this mean that Friday will be the first day I have to attend???..I have had no sight of a timetable yet or any sort of letter saying your first lecture is on whatever day at whatever time.

I have never even been in the Aungier St building before so I'm gonna be totally lost & its been 6 years since my first day as an undergrad so I kind of forget how this whole thing works...should I just go in the week of 15th and hang around the college??

    HELP!!!!!!!!!!!

E-mail the course co-ordinator to ask what the story is. You'll probably find there's a provisional timetable posted somewhere around the place. Also, registration is just the day in which you and pay etc., as well as get your student ID. Nothing major...

Oh ok so there is a chance I could have classes in the first week even before registration day....there are timetables on the dit website but it doesn'tsay if they are for 2008/09 or from last year so I don't want to trust them!

Are you familiar with Aungier St???if I popped in during the week would I be able to just walk around for an hour and get familiar with the place or do I need a student card to be in there?

Definately go in on the monday 15th. This is your orientation and probably your first meet and greet with the lecturers and future classmates. The registration information is just a date that suits the office to do your class's registration. Call into the college beforehand if possible and head into the SU to just chat to whoever is standing around and they'l set you straight on the place in general.

Essentially anyone can walk in and have a look, no one's going to ask for your student card unless you look like a right scumbag there to rob computers...

As far as I know those timetables that are up at the moment are for 2008/2009.

Kinda OT but the online timetable thing won't work for me im typing in Student Tourism and Food and pw tourism but its saying:

Sorry. A problem has occurred while connecting you to the database.
Although the webserver is running, it cannot open a connection
to the Facility dataserver service. Either this service is no longer running
or it is running on a machine no longer accessible to your webserver.
Your system administrator should be made aware of the problem.

Looks like one of the servers went down over the weekend. Give it a few days and try again...or tomorrow night...

oh so do all first years start on the 15th or the day of reg???

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 84 ✭✭elementalwater

First years start the week of the 15th. But they only come in on a staggered basis to register and be "inducted". Then all students start on the 22nd of sept, the first week of the academic calender!

All first years should really have got induction timetables with their registration mailing from the college.
Did anyone get an induction timetable?

I got an induction time table - for mounjoy square. Registration and induction are on the same day there - thoufh different dates for different courses.

Also for mature students ( which I am one of!) there's a mature student induction in Cathal Brugha St - Room 16 from 9 to 1 on 10th September

Lol Dont worry I was AS Confused.
It starts the week of the 15th.
They should have choosen their grammer more carefully...
Go on the 17th at that time
Basically it just means Reg. starts from the 15th onwards.

Oooh, I found the class timetables online but not the induction timetables... are they online also? Or are they posted out to us? Thanks! :-D

Just found out where the induction time tables for each dit are. When you click on the link to student timetables under the rgistratiion heading it has a link to individual college pages and there's wher the induction/ registration timetables are.

Thanks for that. Although I note they have no information on for postgrads, just undergrad induction. Unless I'm looking in the wrong place. Which I don't think I am.

Here's the link - just click on your respective site in the menu bar on the left hand side.

    http://www.dit.ie/services/registration/locations/aungier-street/

These give the registration times, which may be different from Induction start times.

Well, I just found the information for the postgrads registration (it's in the Kevin Street bit even though my campus is Aungier Street). Apparently postgrads can't register between 15th - 19th and 22nd - 26th. Which is great. Oh well, hopefully this will all make sense on my induction, which is the 22nd. I think. *hehe*

I remember reading online ages ago about how disorganised DIT were and now I realise it's true. :) *hehe*

Cheers Cal. I lost that bit of paper somewhere and since it's in a few hrs time I'm grateful!
