Does anyone know what they are trying to do with the Luas near Connolly and BusAras? I know the general idea was to extend the Luas line down towards the Point but currently they seem to be ripping out the tracks at the Luas stop that was located conveniently next to the railway station at Connolly. Also they are ripping up the tracks at the Luas stop conveniently located near BusAras so that the nearest Luas stop to Connolly and BusArus is now way down near Wynns Hotel near O'Connell Street!
Does anyone know what they are at in removing the existing service for such a long period? Or what is the plan for the new configuration to restore the stop at Connolly and provid for a line down towards the Point??

The stops are reopening today Ernest. I got off the DART last night at Connolly for a look and apart from removing a few barriers it looked all ready to go.

They've done fantastic work to get it done so quickly.
I pass it every day and they must be working from 8am to 8pm at least.

Maybe the Council could learn something from them for their own work;)

I'm glad to hear the stops are about to be restored but what were they actually trying to do in the area and what are the plans? Will the new tram line go down the street called Georges Dock towards the Point just by-pass the Connolly spur leaving passengers to walk from the BusAras stop? Or will some trams terminate at the existing Connolly stop and others by pass it?
From seeing the works from Amiens St, I thought they might have been trying to combine the two destinations by diverting the tracks over to Harbourmaster Place, the street which begins parallel to the Connolly Luas terminal, and then perhaps to Mayor Street Lower to get back towards the Point destination but the street and the tramline are on different levels near Connolly and they did not seem to be doing anything like building a ramp to move the trams up to the Harbourmaster Place level.

Ernest, they were laying a junction there to allow LUAS to either stop at Connolly as they currently do or head onwards to the Point as some services will do so in the future. As the tracks are on the road, there was little choice but to dig it up.

Connolly and Busáras Luas Stops on the Luas Red Line will re-open on Sunday September 7th and Luas services at these stops will return to normal. This 12 week closure was necessary to facilitate the on-going construction of the Luas Docklands Line. We would like to thank you for your patience and co-operation during these works. Is there a start date for the new Point service?

How will Red Line trams work? Will some only run to Connolly and others to the Point? Or will there just be a shuttle service between The Point and Connolly?

November apparently for the Point stop, although the Connolly/Busaras works were supposed to be finished at the end of July, so that date may change.

Eh, I've no idea where you're getting these dates as they are completely wrong.

The extension to the Point is due to open in 2010, not November.

The work at installing the delta junction at Store Street/Amiens Street started in June and was scheduled to last until "Autumn 2008", with no specific completion date given. To have completed that work by the end of July would have been impossible and was never suggested by the RPA.

Trams will run to the Point via Connolly, with the driver swapping ends - the third side of the delta allows for direct working to/from the Point (perhaps for out of service moves or specials).

Nope, as said they quoted Autumn and they did an excellent job in getting it done so quickly. Credit where it's due!

November 2009? Lol if you think it'll be completed in 2008. They've a lot done but a lot more to do.
