Am thinking about getting the above netbook as a secondary laptop to my xps.

What I want to know is has the 4211 wifi capabilities? I presume it has but I thought I'd ask the silly question anyways. You never know with the way some products are advertised what your getting.

I've heard the the 4211 is a serious piece of mobile gear anyways.

I'm posting off a 4211 at the mo, and indeed it has wifi, and bluetooth as well. Really loving this machine, only got it yesterday! As has been mentioned before, one of it's downsides is the battery life, i've been getting a steady 2 and a quarter hours out of it with light web browsing. Which is grand for me. Asides from that it really is a fantastic machine, great screen and surprisingly fast with the atom processor. Just in the middle of installing photoshop for the laugh, i think the machine might just die when i try to run it!

yep but no draft n wireless though.

Fine computer but be aware its FN and CTRL keys are swapped around and its a b1tch to get used to.

Oh yeah and the touchpad sucks really bad too

other than that its THE best netbook available

The hp mini note would be the best if it had an x3100 for example and an atom instead of that via.

yeah im thinking of getting it. I was travelling in the states last month and really missed having a small laptop with me for portability.

I've never really used a computer to watch movies on, but I was wondering how do I go about downloading a few movies onto it if I get it? I'll be heading to Africa in a few months so woul'dnt mind watching a few movies in boring hostels to pass the time.

    cheers

same as on any other computer, if by downloading you mean downloading off the net

this baby can play 720p HD with a few tweaks

Wife has one.....You will probably need to update the wireless card drivers and MAYBE change the channel on your router ...NOTE if you have much faster than 6meg broadband you may not be getting th best from it as the wireless card is not very good at all.
On balance a seriously good little machine ...replaced a 1400-1600 euro Sony Vaio 13.3" 'business' laptop.

+1 for the advent. Owned many shapes and sizes of notebook and find I'm using this the most. I find the touchpad grand.

Also photoshop, fireworks etc its grand for touching up stuff, the Atom is a capable processor.

Re the battery life mugenpower are bringing out a 7800mah battery for it this month (the one it comes with is 2200mah). Should give about 7hrs computing time! Wirelss works fine for me, I'm not too fussy for n, g is plenty fast for me.

7 hours really? I will be picking up one of them for sure. Wonder what the price will be though.

OP, i got mine about three weeks ago and it worked like a treat straight out of the box not a problem at all.

Got the 4211 today and have to say im very happy with it. Lovely little portable netbook and does exactly what it says it does.

One question: is there an integrated webcam in it or do I need to get an external one? I don't really use webcams but would like to know if there's one already in the netbook? It says there is one but when I click on the "webcam" icon is says "please install video component".

You can use Fn + F11 to enable or disable the webcam.

Eh, is it not fn + F6? Well that's what i have right infront of me anyway. Fn + F11 is the wireless/bluetooth shortcut

Ah yes I got it sorted.

    One last question guys:

I downloaded a progam and noticed that i could not see the bottom of the screen that the program was opened on. It looks like the program did not adjust its screen....so therefore I was unable to click any of the buttons at the bottom of the screen as the screen did not adjust.

Have any of you had this problem? and if so whats the solution.

P.s the program was ladbrokes poker and the button where I should be able to click was the "register for tournament" but I could not scroll down on the page.

any help would be appreciated. I planned on using the laptop when staying in hotels to play poker on the move so its kinda important that I get it solved.

    Thanks

Try going into the settings within the game/program and see if there are any resolution settings, i presume it's currently set at 1024*768, which is why the bottom of the screen is missing. (Advent's screen is 1024*600). It should work at 800*600 or something with XXX*600 or below. If that fails, you can right click on the desktop, click properties, settings tab and change the screen resolution to 1024*768, but this will mean you have to "scroll", to see the full page.

Whats the story with getting a better battery for the 4211? I'm getting about 2 hours which is sound....but would like more juice if its available??

any idea if there is a better one on the way?

Just got the girlfriend one of these and was using it for a while, must say a fantastic little machine. Lovely keyboard (for a netbook), nice vibrant screen and it seems well put together....also a bit faster than i expected.

Would like to know where to get a stronger battery aswell, its only real downfall in my opinion.

I think MSI Wind came with a more pwerful battery but of course it was dearer too .Might have heard a bigger battery due for this in a month or two.....BUT these netbook battery upgrades cost a fortune ....have 79.95 in my head for some reason and that could be sterling...anyway youre talking 3 figures with delivery...Not so much
point in a 'cheap' netbook if itr becomes dearer unless you are chroniCALLY SHORT OF SPACE )caps lock meltdown !)

https://www.medionshop.co.uk/ has a 6 cell battery for the Akoya Mini Netbook (MSI Wind clone) for £50 while https://www.medionshop.de/ has the same battery for €99

Both are unavailable at the moment, I was thinking of buying the Advent but the 3 cell battery is seriously putting me off and am now leaning more towards the Asus Eee Pc 901 or 1000H as both come with a 6 cell battery.

    Edit

Just saw this in the Asus thread
This might be of interest to 4211/wind owners, there is a 9-cell 7800mAh in development. http://www.lionbattery.com/news.php?nonews=50 Price works out around 95 euro though. Out mid October. No idea of how heavy it will be either.

So it looks like a battery upgrade for the Advent is going to cost in the region of €100, which makes the Advent plus new battery dearer than the 901 and slightly cheaper than the 1000H.

Off course some people might be happy with the lower battery but for me the point of a netbook would be mobility.
