check out this site its a guy called william smith and he travels all over thailand training, he keeps notes in his blog its a great read plus very useful
for anybody heading over, plus you can e-mail him form his webpage.

i myself trained at tiger mma/thai gym in phuket, i think its great for a newbe
like me, however if your more advance and looking more one to one training
when you go to the camp tell them you want to train and take a fight, that way they will focus more on you, hope this is a help to you, good luck and enjoy yourself.

There is a good documentary called the Lanna Trilogy. It documents a chap visting Thailand over the course of 2 or 3 years I believe and his training at Lanna Muay Thai camp. It covers alot of areas, like costs, food, places to see, how to renew your passport, what training is like, rental of vechicles and so on. Very informative.

Don't rate Lanna camp at all. Very poor when I was there in 2003 and think they've made their name after the success of Nong Toom (Ladyboy from Beautiful Boxer). Figure out if you're after trying to learn technical stuff or going to one of the pro camps to gain the experience of training like a pro in a pro camp or if you're gonna take a fight. Each camp has something different to offer and location can also be a factor eg in general best pro camps are in Bangkok. Craig O'Flynn runs a great camp in Pattaya and a number of Irish fighters have trained there.

Yeah when I was in thailand I did nt hear great things about Lanna. Heard they did more running than Muay Thai, but dont have any first hand knowledge of Lanna myself.

Also heard lots of bad things about lanna. Lots of bad things. In fact, I didn't hear a good word about it.

I trained in True Bee up in Pai (up North) and found the 1 on 1 attention to be very good. If you want to push your fitness there you'll need to be self disciplined where more traditional thai camps will whip you into shape. :)

Like Dave said....Bangkok is considered to have the best of the best. Rompo's supposed to be good as is Jittys. I'm sure there are others.

Prices: Around 50-70 euro a week for training twice a day iirc. You can get deals with accommodation and food too, but these tend to be cheap enough anyway (more expensive in bangkok).

Where in Thailand do you intend on heading?

Even so! The DVD is good for getting an idea of how things run over there. I liked it anyways :)

Well, maybe thats hardcore but you'ed be surprised the doors that can be opened if you genuinely have an interest in Thai culture and make a bit of an effort.

Im not saying "fcuk the culture i just want to train" please dont think im one of those, its just im not one for sight seeing and its a training holiday(if thats not tooo much of a paradox!!)

obviously in my spare time ill end up taking in some of the culture/scenery etc, however thats not why im going, and because of that im not too concerned where in thailand i end up as long as the gym is good!!

i hope i cleared that up!!

Ah I went over for a training holiday too. The Thai's are lovely though. Where you train will have an impact on your morale after a while. I wouldn't like to be in Bangkok for example. Didn't really like it as a city. Pai and Chiang Mai on the other hand.....great spots. If you're training twice a day, your downtime is limited and as such becomes really important. I'd say just bear that in mind.

Training is the culture. LOL I'd recommend Chiang Mai or Pai. Where Khainne said. True-Bee. Great gym. Fantastic coach.

i hope i cleared that up!!

 Should have clarified I didn't mean the whole touristy thing but if you show a bit of interest in the language for example, people will be a lot more helpful. However, hope you have a great time and enjoy the training.

I cant comment on Chang Mai, didnt go up there. If you want the best camps then go to Bangkok, but the place will drive you mad if you stay too long. I went to WMC Lamai Gym on Koh Samui, i thought the training was great and in between sessions and sundays theres plenty to do. Also you have the plus side of being 30seconds walk from a tropical beach, my 2 cents!

Ps: I went twice and both were training holidays, so i didnt stay longer than a month each time. really depends on how long you are going for..........Enjoy it, best holidays i ever had

Hi there I spent 5 months in Thailand training, Fairtex Bangkok is vary good, loads of trainers to choose from, one of Thailand’s most respected fighters there Abu day one of only a few people to receive award off the king for is outstanding fighting, this place is probably the most expensive of them all, but the living conditions are excellent the food is S**T plus the location is near the airport, with not much to distract you.

Scorpion gym is located behind ko san road, one guy runs this place, limited on equipment and space, loads noise and loads to distract you. but I must say the time spent here I was nearing my end of my visit and wished I had more time to spend with him, I Thought he was vary good and would return to him again before moving on.

Fairtex Pattaya Excellent Hotel 4* job. all top of the range equipment, and trainers. This place is for your a holiday with light training. this place you go for pampering and relaxing.

If I was to do the whole trip again, I would choose 3 weeks in each, every camp is different. in your case I would choose 1 week in each. remember most camps will try and get all the money out of you at the start
"be careful" you don’t get a refund if you receive injuries.
