This here is the item in question. As a long term bug fan but never an owner I fancy the arse off of this...

    http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&rd=1&item=120300741903&ssPageName=STRK:MESE:IT&ih=002

I felt he was being a little slick when I rang him but he's sent what looks to me like a very comprehensive set of photos.

I like it, I can afford it, I'm not put off by the dawks so what would you do (assumiing it's not a mechanical lemon (Kubrick's gonna sue))???

Sorry for all the pics but I really don't feel qualified to make this decision on my own:o The last time I came this close to buying the bug I've always wanted, i bottled it and bought a bike instead:D

Looks good to me. Saying that I don't know the first thing about beetles :)

It's one of the nicest beetles i've seen though. Great colour and the wheels really suit it

Seems good to me,its in better shape than the one i liooked at last week, and that was 3k euros, and didnt have the wheels!!

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 551 ✭✭✭trevorbrady

doesn't look too bad. It obviously has had some repairs but they appear to have been done pretty well. The filler work on the front quarter doesn't look great but you could live with that.

If I were you I'd underseal it as soon as you get it as you can see some of the repairs are breaking out again.

If you're in contact with the seller make him an offer. It's been listed long enough with the "buy it now" price only (i.e. not an auction) and it hasn't sold so chance your arm on the price. He might come down a bit. It might pay for the ferry trip home ;)

You saw that one in Kerry so? Lol

OP car looks clean, wheels suit and great colour.
What i've gotten to know about English people is that they are very true about the condition of their cars. It's not like the Irish "Ah she's a nice clean car, few old spots of rust you know the usual" ie. the car is falling apart.

I'm sure if this fella is sending you detailed pics of the beetle, and seems genuine it should be genuine. Although one thing i can reccomend is that you don't judge alot until you see it, things can so very easily change.

I did,did you see the same car?You are right about engish people being gnerally honest, though underseal often hides alot of sins....

    Aye it can do.

No, i saw the thread in which someone linked to it on ebay and you seemed interested:D

My experience as well. When I bought my capri the seller was almost harsh on the poor car. It was a lot better in real life than I was actually expecting...

Make sure you tell him that the "taxed until May 2009" is of no benefit to you and you may get another few quid off.

    Chauffe, Marcel, chauffe!

Nice one! Best of luck with it

I rarely like very non-standard wheels, but I do like the huge MINI wheels on the beetle. The 1303S was always my favourite one anyway for its muscle looks and it looks savage lowered like that

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 23,694 ✭✭✭✭L-M

I'm just thinking to myself now what a bargain that is, the wheels i'd say are worth a few bob alone.

Thanks lots, guys. You're all so kind:)

OMFG, I hope it doesn't fall apart on the **320-odd mile trip to pembroke/ fishguard/ Holyhead**

I'll have week of sleepless nights, methinks:p:p:p

Guys, I have a feeling I will quite rightly be told to search but I have the full array of newbie probs on this car aside from the ferries/ flights.

Classic insurance (I'm 26 with full NCB, daily driver, no accidents/ claims etc)
    - will i be able to insure a uk reg'd classic on my private policy?
    - will i have problems collecting a UK reg'd classic on an Irish classic policy
    - obviously, who will insure me and any idea how much i should be paying approx

    registration
    - what documentation must i make sure he gives me on the day
    - what verifications can I use to make sure he's not a con man?
    - will i have a choice of a 74 C XXX reg or a ZV or must i take what they give me???
    - will i be hit for extras for wheels etc?

what's the deal with VRT and road tax anyway??

been there done that, In order asked:

    - you need classic insc. Should cost about €200 inckluding breakdown assit for 3rd part F&T, the reg is irrelevant, but they may require either the engine number, chassis number (axa) or a colour photo (hibernian).
    - no
    - see above. I base the 200 on what I am paying, same details, but on a 74 2.0 Capri with a value of €2000.

    - The bit of the v5, i forget what it is called!
    - Bullsh1tometer
    - Your choice. If you go for 74 c then you can get a zv later, but not vice versa.
    - No, you only pay the negligible rate and they wont want to see the car.

After getting no help from Quinn (of course) I rang AON and they transferred me onto O'Riordan's on the South Mall in Cork and for €260 I can go fully comp on a UK reg provided I produce a fax showing a valid MoT (which it has).

Limit of 5k a year (more than enough) No roadside assistance, though. They want a photo and a copy of the cert for me daily driver.

Should that be a job done situation or should I hold out for roadside assistance??

O'Riordans classic policy is underwitten by Hibernian. Try going direct, I got a quote from O Riordans for my renewal a few weeks ago and they were not at the races. Funnily enough Hibernian direct will not quote you, you need to contact the south mall branch!

Also try Axa on Oliver plunkett st.

Get AA, they cover you what ever car you drive.

Be careful. You are generally only covered on other cars provided
    a) You are not the owner
    b) The car you are driving is insured by someone else.

Rang Brophys and for €240 I'll get fully comp with roadside assistance and windscreen cover. I think that's downright reasonable. They don't need MoTs or anu of that stuff, just the reg.

You don't want to acknowledge that as truth because, deep down in places you don't talk about at the Green Party, you want me on that road, you need me on that road. We use words like freedom, enjoyment, sport and community. We use these words as the backbone of a life spent instilling those values in our families and loved ones. You use them as a punch line. I have neither the time nor the inclination to explain myself to a man who rises and sleeps under the tax revenue and the very freedom to spend it that I provide, and then questions the manner in which I provide it. I would rather you just said "thank you" and went on your way. Otherwise I suggest you pick up a bus pass and get the ********* ********* off the road”

    Arse!

Typical, the second bit was supposed to be 'Kraft durch Freude' but I wasnt paying attention! As in KdF wagon!
First bit was supposed to be 'I love those little Panzers', so where'd Vista go wrong?
