    Hi,

I've been looking into buying a dell pc as they seem to be the cheapest for the most bang. I only really use it for surfing the net and playing a few games, Football Manager being the main one. Seeing as that is on giant database they recommend running it with a good processor and plenty of Ram.

Now the problem i have is dual core and quad core technology has passed me by. Is a 3.00 ghz dual core processer just two 1.5 processors????

Also the different makes, intel, centreno etc. Is that jsut personal choice?

What i was looking at was:

    Intel Core™ 2 Duo E8400 processor (3.00GHz, 1333MHz, 6MB cache)
Genuine Windows Vista™ Home Premium with Service Pack 1, 32-bit English
HARDWARE SUPPORT 1 Year Base Warranty
    MEMORY 4096MB 800MHz Dual Channel DDR2 SDRAM [4x1024]
HARD DRIVE 640GB (7200rpm) SATA Hard Drive
GRAPHICS CARD 256MB ATI® Radeon™ HD 2400 XT graphics card
OPTICAL DRIVE DVD +/- RW Drive (read/write CD & DVD

But then i read on here about the outlet store and saw this:

    XPS 630 Intel Core 2 Duo E8500 (3.16Ghz)
    English Windows Vista Home Premium
Operating System: English Windows Vista Home Premium
    Memory: 4GB MB (4x1024MB) 800Mhz DDR2
Hard Disk Drive: 500GB 7200rpm SATA HD
Video: SINGLE 512MB NVIDIA GeForce 8800GT
    CD Read-Write Drive: CD-RW (Read/Write) 48x / DVD-ROM
    16x DVD+/-RW & 16x DVD Drives
MISC: Mouse Dell Wheel USB 2 Button Scroll Black
    Assembley Mod
Vista OnLine Getting Started Guide (WW
    Dell Quietkey Black Keyboard
    19-in-1 Bluetooth Media Card Reader
    Image Restore - Vista
Documentation English Shipping Doc with Power Cord

So which processor is better annd is a 512 video card as good/same as a graphic card?

    Thanks.

    ok, where to start...

A dual core processor is two seperate cores.so if its 3ghz then its 2x 3ghz processors. quad being 4 seperate. lets just say you run a program on dual core then 1 processor ill operate that program while the other will stay idle until you run another porgram...likewise for quad... It basically means you can run multiple programs without slowing your system down...

As for which system, you should go with the 2nd choice... it has faster processor, bit less harddisk space but for your intended use its fine , a better GPU (graphics)and equal RAM. It all depends on how much really... but Dells are good and have decent warranties.
