Optimum settings for a Speedlite 430EX on a Canon Eos 450D?

    Can anyone help here?

I've read up on it, and been advised that - to use it as a fill-in flash - set it to AV and force the shutter speed to 200 in Cn3. I've bought a diffuser for it also, but am getting mixed results.

    Any and all advice appreciated!:)

    Regards,

    Freddie.

For fill flash, I much rather use TV rather than AV, if not manual.

Flash is a game of playing until it works, then playing until you get it the way you want it.

Giz an example of how/what you're using it on and what's coming off it.

I've found these flash setups to be very useful, you will have to translate from Olympus to Canon but the principles should be exactly the same.

I have also posted a link in the FAQ sticky today concerning a
    EOS Flash Bible. :)

I'm in the exact same position, just got a 580EX and want to use
it in Av but am paranoid about using it indoors and slow shutter
    speeds...

Thanks for all the help folks. Only really messing around with it last night at home, but I'm going to a 60th birthday party tonight, so I'll see how it goes.:)

I took some photos on Saturday and used the Hi-speed sync mode on the Speedlite with AV on the camera. What would happen is that (on the first shot) the camera would take a perfect picture. Shutter at 1/200, lighting perfect. Next two would be underexposed (I was able to recover this when viewing the RAW image on the PC). If I switched the flash off and on again this would cure it.

There seems to be a debate as to whether to use M or AV indoors. But in M mode, the shutter speed would still drop to about 1/30, with no way of altering it.

    Any ideas?

    Cheers,

    Freddie.
