As basically as I can put this; I'd like to copy the songs from my itunes onto my windows media player and then onto non-ipod mp3 player(s). Although I'm not completely computer illiterate, I'd like some simple(preferably free) software to achieve this. the music on my itunes is 99% ripped from my own cds so as far as I know, there won't be any DRM(?) issues. Any advice would be appreciated

Surely windows media player plays your iTunes music, is it ripped to mp3 format?

If you really need wma, I'm pretty sure iTunes will convert to wma for you!

Mp3 plays on every DAP so i'd definitely recommend you use that instead of wma.

Do you have many CD's? as re ripping your CD's would provide the best quality files.

If there are no drm issues, there are no issues really and as MacTard says, far better to go with mp3 than wma. And from within iTunes itself you can convert directly to mp3 (assuming that your tracks are not mp3 already but in AAC format, which is the default for iTunes I think) so no need for more software. Inside iTunes, when looking at your library, have the "Kind" field displayed in your view and see what it says there to check. To convert to mp3, select your library of non-mp3 tracks and right-click, select "convert to mp3" and walk away. Come back at a time later relative to the amount of tracks involved ...

    1. Open iTunes, Click Advanced up the top of the screen, then click Consolidate Library in that menu. This will copy any music in your library that is not stored in iTunes' own folder into that folder

    2. Use Windows Explorer to Navigate to My Documents/My Music/iTunes/iTunes Music. Hopefully all your music should be there, organised into folders my artist, then the subfolder album. It should be all in mp3 format, which can be played by Windows Media Player and every mp3 player

(As far as I know, this option may only work if you selected "Let iTunes keep my music folders organised" when setting up iTunes, but try it anyway and see)

I am trying to copy my music from itunes to any other music player. In the 'Kind' field it is saying my files are in AAC format and when i right click it it does not show me the option to convert to mp3 and i am a little to nervous to use the consolidate library as it says that this option is ireversable and I am not sure exactly what I am doing, can anyone help..thanks in advance for all help.

Forget the consolidate library business, that has nothing to do with format conversion.

Are you sure your MP3 player wont play AAC tracks as they are?

If not, you can just use iTunes to convert AAC -> MP3. It will create MP3 copies of each track and leave the original AAC untouched.
