It is really hard to give any advice, as there are so many different models and more variations of the models again....and everybody has different preferences.

Some absolutely want a bed over the cab, others hate it. Some want bunks, others don't ...etc.

On a rainy day (no shortage of those) have a browse through here
    http://suchen.mobile.de/fahrzeuge/search.html?scopeId=MH&lang=en
and look at as many pictures of interiors as you can to get a rough idea what might and might not work for you Never mind decor for the time being)

Then go to a dealer with a good choice of new and used motorhomes and look at the layouts in the flesh. By then you should have a rough idea of what you really like. now you can narrow down your searches and begin looking in earnest and compare similar layouts from different makers until you've found what you really want.

Interior layout is an individual thing, depending on whether you want fixed beds or are happy to convert beds to tables every day.
There's lots to choose from out there at the moment and a few bargains too, view lots of different model and make a checklist of what you want. Traditionally the German manufacturers produced an excellent motorhome with high build quality. Hymer, Weisberg, Knaus to name a few. Fiat Ducato are the most popular chassis with a very good engine.

thanks for the help, especially the models/makes - good to have a bit of an idea of what is even popular.

don't know where you are in the country but I would highly recommend anchor point motorhomes in birdhill, near limerick. we bought from them in may and they were fantastic, really helpful, good value, good selection etc. they have a website www.anchorpointmotorhomes.com.
