Is fresher's week just for freshers?

I'm going into 2nd year. Last year, i hadn't met anyone in my course and i only knew one other guy in tcd.

It was just me and him walking around getting free stuff. He didn't want to go on any nights out/ pub crawls so i missed out on them too. Basically it was pretty ****, a massive let down.

Anyway this year, I know loads of people and i plan on taking part in everything and it just being a week-long party.

I have a friend in galway. We were discussing me visiting him, and i suggested i'd go up for their freshers week and we'd go crazy.

He replied; "why would you want to do that, fresher's week is for fresher's". Instantly all my excitement about going back to college dissappeared.

PLEASE!!! TELL ME WHAT I WANT TO HEAR!!!

I didn't even go to Fresher's week when I was a fresher. I spent most of fresher's week the subsequent years in college doing different things (though not going to the organised nights out, cause they're ****e, but whatever you're into).

Suffice to say, there are probably more non-freshers then freshers at most of the events.

Oh noes! If you had such a bad time because you only knew one fellow, imagine what will happen to me when I'm up there all by my lonesome!.

I'll probably just walk about too though, then retire to my chamber (or room, whatever).

    In fairness.

I went out on Freshers week in year 4.

    I am still young.

Isn't freshers week all about feeling a little fresher?

Seriously though by best freshers weeks were my second and third year ones... go for it.

well if you're staying in halls, then you'll probably make friends really quickly. You could just do stuff with your house-mates. I always envied the halls-folk.

Heh. I'm pretty sure I've heard you use that before, but it's still funny. And as long as it doesn't break the crucial "half your age plus seven", it's all good and legal.

Plenty of the smaller clubs and societies have pub crawls or small receptions during freshers' week, so you'll find something to go along to, no doubt. I came in knowing no one and met the unfortune girl who's had to put up with me for the last 3 years at a FW event.

That said, my first year FW in general was pretty non-collegey - I had just started a new job and ended up working the first few nights, a good friend of mine was just back from Slovenia for the Thursday, then had my debs on the Friday, so I think I was only in Trinity on 2-3 of the days. Still joined about 12 clubs and societies though...

    Me too!:(
I wonder is there a loner society in trinity?:p

I remember my first freshers' week as a bit of an odd experience. I had two friend from school and spent a lot of time with them. This is not the best idea.

Get out and talk to anyone and everyone, at some stage i'm sure you will meet me anyway. Don't have preconceptions just be ready for the hilarity that freshers' week can inspire.

Freshers' week is for everyone but we always make a special effort for first years. There will be so much stuff on, all you have to do is go to it all.

As my fifth and final freshers' week is rapidly approaching I envy any of you who are going to have their first.

Freshers week isnt about freshers. Its about the first week of college and societies. Its about a new college year for some. For others its about the new college experience.

    Its all good

And by the way Im not looking for free stuff. All free stuff I get I'll give to somebody else. I'm new to college and I don't know many people, so I WANT TO GET TO KNOW EVERYBODY!

Freshers week is aimed at freshers, but everyone else joins in as well! Admittedly it's usually the freshers who join 20 clubs/societies, people in higher years just join the ones they're actually interested in, but there's loads of stuff going on that you won't want to miss!

Freshers' week in first year was bit metal, went out the first four nights and died in work on the friday.

Every other year has involved going out the first 4 nights and drinking awful concotions of alcohol on the Friday night.

Freshers week is great. There is loads to do. If you're worried about meeting people it is a good idea to go to some of the 'large-groups-of-people-who-dont-know-each-other-events' it can make it easier to meet people. And for the club nights go with the one or two people you know and then successfully loose them in the club.

Also crucially what happens in Freshers week, stays in Freshers week. So well go a bit mental. It's the last time that going out anywhere other than Coopers is like a massive game of beat the slapper.
