All Ireland final?

Just found out I've got a ticket to the All Ireland Sunday. In the Davin stand/canal end lower tier behind the goal. The only time I've been to Croker was for U2 (yeah, I know, awful but I am from Waterford and wasnt alive last time they were in the final ;) ) so I dont know if I should, or even can, bring my camera a Canon 40D (or an old 350D) with a Sigma 18-200 and/or Sigma 70-300. They are slow lenses but the only telephotos I have.

    Am I:
    a) Not going to get the camera into the stadium past the security checks? Are security and camera restrictions tighter for All Ireland finals than other occasions? Has anyone had their camera taken off them at croker and gotten it back after the match?

    b) Wasting my time with that gear anyway? I could just bring a point and click to grab some crowd photos.

They've been in plenty semi finals that you could have gone to ;)

Anyway, you;ll have no problems with taking in your camera. Only thing is if you are down low and directly behind the goals you'll have plenty obstacles in your way to get good shots.

depending on the weather and what row you are you could get very wet and may not be the best for your camera.

Security is not a problem in Croke Park with cameras

To paraphrase the Irish boxer said Semi-finals are for losers (one for all the Tipp fans out there...) ;)

The view may be a problem but I'll cross my fingers and hope for a good seat.

Forecast is for sun believe it or not. Though if it is raining my camera stays home.

Good to hear security wont be a problem, I'm looking forward to it even more now that I know I can bring my camera, I'll post afterwards and let you know how I got on :)

I was there last Sunday for semi finals. No problems taking all my gear in (2 cameras, 3 lenses, accessories). In my Nikon badged bag - no checks.

I was in Davin Lower - 319 seat B15. Got some great shots. As mentioned already, you'll probably have some obstructions to negotiate. I had a tv camera, photographer, security guard, goal umpire, ball boy but still managed ok.

Some of my shots are here

    Have fun.

Never mind taking photos: Come on Waterford!!! As far as priorities go, Waterford winning >>>>>>> getting some good photos.

(Unless you can get some of Shefflin falling over, or Eddie Brennan running into the goalpost)

As mentioned on a previous post - From that position I would tend to look around me rather than at the action (when taking a photo) in that way you can capture the unique atmosphere that is Croke park on All Ireland Final day. With a wide angle you could get some great crowd reaction shots - particularly by swinging around after a score.

Don't forget that there will be incredible opportunities on the way to the stadium - fans, colour, flag sellers, people having the tea and sandwiches at the boot of the car in Mounjoy square etc. As a project you could have a go at getting enough material to make a photo montage of the day.

As a Tipp man - I want o genuinely offer you all the best and hope you have a great day - you've probably got the support of 31 other counties.

    Heretic! ^_^

I'm working in the morning time, but I will certainly be supporting the black & amber from the comfy confines of the pub.

Not unless it's a music gig. Not a chance of getting one in for The Police!
I wouldn't bother iwth the camera myself, enjoy the match! Make the most of it - who knows when you'll get a chance to return! :p:D

I think I'll skip the long lens, they are not up to the job and I'd only be annoyed. I'll bring a wide angle and maybe a 50mm in my pocket. That way I can watch the match and take photos before and after :)

As for when we'll be there again... maybe the replay ;)

you can't beat the AI final for bringing out the true fair weather supporters;)

you should be able to get a good pic from standing on top of the band wagon:D

    Up the Cats!

OK, Seriously, I am also thinking of taking my D80, I brought it last year but really unless you have a pro lens with pitch access then it will be hard to get any decent action shots, maybe go for crowd and candid shots.

Suppose you would not do the honourable thing and give your ticket to a real supporter!!:mad: :D
Just the mention of this match has the pulse racing. Taking photos on All-Ireland day starts outside the ground. Its a great chance to capture one of the great days in Irish sporting life, the colour, the fans and the craic. If you approach Croke Park from North Cir Rd end get some shots looking towards Clonliffe Collage. You will get some good shots inside the groud. EMOTION
When you are in the groud see if you can get one of Eoin Kelly chasing after Tommy Walsh, hopefully there will be plenty of oppertunities. Should also be a good few chances to capture Henry Shefflin or Eddie Brennan showing a clean pair of heels to Ken McGrath and Co;);). At the other end of the field, Dan or Mullane are great to capture, full of charachter.
If you see Justin McCarthy dont forget to thank him for his great contribution to Waterford hurling.:rolleyes::rolleyes::rolleyes: Up the cats. Serously may the best team win
