I have had water stuck in my ear for the last 22 hours after an over eager dive into the pool. Hopefully it will go away soon.

I shake the water out - much to the amusement of Mrs Trout who loves it when I do my "dance". When you're sleeping lie on the side that water's trapped - it may trickle out.

It hasn’t happened to me in a long time but I used to have a bit of a ‘dance’ too, more like a head banging session tho. :D

The water is trapped in the air lock in your ear. Hold your nose, close your mouth and blow hard to pop your ears. While popped, turn your head to one side and shake your head around a bit. Works for me.

Ok guys, heres my opinion. I'm a pharmacist and get people asking me about this quite often. There are all these options like: use a hairdryer an a low setting, put more water in your ear, use a 50/50 solution of vinegar and alcohol. These may very well work, but by far the best method in my opinion is:

tilt the waterlogged ear to face the ground, jump up and down on one leg, as your foot hits the ground simultaneously hit the opposite side of your head with your palm (the side opposite to the waterlogged ear).

granted you look like a fool doing this, but it has never failed me. you might have to perservere for a minute or two but give it a try.

(not suitable for use in changing rooms with wet floors.....)

I had an ear infection in Spain a few weeks ago for about 4 days, complete agony, i thought it was water in my ear but doctor said it was from uncleaned private pool, had to go on antibiotics and a special drop, for the first day i got the infection i thought it was swimmers ear, how wrong i was, same symptoms etc tried to keep popping it and nothing happened, all good now though.
